“Good service, great location”
Reviewed 4 August 2011

The location couldn't have been better, right across the York Minster and very close to the city center. I originally had a single, but because of the non-functioning lift on that floor, (I made the reservation online and agreed to an upper floor only if there was a lift) I was moved to a double. That turned out to be a good thing, since the singles are dismally small. It's worth the extra GBP to get that extra space, especially if you are going to be there for more than a day.
The service was good and the included breakfast was continental plus cooked to order items.

This is a lovely hotel.

- The location is fantastic
- Our room was nicely decorated, with a great bed and huge bathroom\
- Breakfast is fantastic - a great range and really high quality.
- Wi-fi is free.

Our only moan is the price. We had the four-poster room, which was very good, but £240 a night, with no chance of discount, is expensive even for York. On top of that, the room was boiling, and they wanted £25 a day to borrow an air conditioning unit. How can they justify that? Recommend you go outside July and August if you don't like hot bedrooms.

Amazing location by Minster- unsurpassable in York. But dated flowery room, as if the smart re-furb hasnt made it past the ground floor yet. Stunning view of extractor fans and aircon units from a backwards facing room. 70's furniture, thin walls-in fact just as it was when I last stayed there in the mid 80's. Good service at reception but a long way to carry bags to room.

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western in Dean's Court on our honeymoon. We only stayed there one night, but would have probably arranged to have stayed another had we known how wonderful the hotel would be. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean and cozy, and the bathroom was excellent. There was plenty of water pressure (one of my must-haves). In addition to that, the staff was helpful and incredibly friendly. We showed up early and not only did they hold our luggage, but they placed it in our room for us. The next day they were more than willing to hold it for us again after we checked out. I would definitely stay here. The location is hard to beat. You're right next to the York Minster and the train station is 10 minutes away if you walk slowly.

Room Tip: We got lucky. We were upgraded to a suite. Just cross your fingers!

This is a lovely hotel that is positioned quite beautifully for a city-break in York. It is literally in the shadow of York Minster and has unrivalled access to York city centre.
Our room was No.25. It was clean, spacious and looked out on to the Minster. A little noise from outside filtered through when the windows were open but nothing to worry about.
We didn't have dinner in the restaurant, but we did have the breakfasts. Excellent too.
Not expensive. Ideally placed. Typical Best Western. You have nothing to lose by staying here.

We booked to stay at Deans court Hotel using Best Western points, arrived teatime on the 15th July and we where booked for 2 nights. Staff on reception where friendly, we checked in quickly and efficently and our car keys taken to store the car for the two night stay (at a charge, so make sure you ask about this, but there is not really any other option with the hotel being in centre of York, also you need everything from your car for the weekend). We were assisted to our room wth our luggage by the very jolly door man who also parks the car and seems to do an awful of jobs at the hotel always with a smile!

The room was the usual high standard that we have expected from the Deans Court having stayed here about 4 times now. The hotel offers complimentary bottled water, a good seletion of tea and coffee and othet little things that make the stay more enjoyable, i.e. bath robes, shower gels, cotton buds etc. Room was quite warm and the fan provided was a little noisy to leave on, but so was opening the window, but it is in the busy part of town, however we did manage to sleep with the window open, maybe the cocktails helped!!!

Breakfast was slightly better this time, last time we had quite a wait for breakfast, but they seemed more efficient this time. Good selection of continential Breakfast and the usual warm breakfasts, I ordered porridge which was very tasty on the first morning, but on the second morning came with the cream already poured on it which I was not to pleased about as it is suppose to come in a pouring jug for you to decide if you want it, and also it had a layer of skin on the underside of it. Such as same about the porridge!!!

We went for a 13 mile run on the Saturday morning, the reception staff pointed us in the direction of the river and once we had ran for about a mile down along the river we where out into fields and countryside, so if you are wanting to escape the city for a while you can walk for miles!

Overall this hotel is a great stay it is right in the middle of York, with the Minster outside the window and the theatre 2 minutes walk away, the shops, pubs and restaurants are only a few minutes away. If you are wanting a quiet break don't book this hotel as it is on a noisy street all day and most of the night, and the Minster bells start about 9am on the Sunday morning and go for about an hour. Its in a great location, so if you want the location, but reduced noise you might want to ask for a room at the rear of the hotel (might be quieter, I prefer one that looks onto the Minster)

We have never eaten dinner in the restuarant as we like to go out and about, recommend Cafe Rouge about 5 minutes walk, or Cafe Concerto just around the corner (best to book as it gets busy), Ask Restuarant is over the road, but it is like a big school dining room, and to be honest overpriced for what you get.

Love Deans Court hotel, if you want a quieter hotel slightly outside of York but with a lovely walk into the city try the York Pavilion, its on a good bus route, or you can walk down by the river to the city centre.

The restaurant not only gets top marks for its food , the wines , and the excellant staff but has real ambience .The view from the windows is of the floodlit York Minster less than 100 yards away . The hotel is so central that we walked evrywhere .
