Stayed as a family of 9. 6 adults and 3 boys. Hotel staff fantastic location great, rooms and general areas clean and well presented. Meals and drinks very expensive though meals well presented and tasted fantastic.Coudnt afford to do this often but a as a treat it was a great weekend.

Room Tip: As its beteween the Minster and a church the early morning bells get you where ever you sleep.

We decided to book the Dean Court Hotel for a one night stay in York for our wedding anniversary. The reviews on tripadvisor looked good and the price was within our budget. We arrived at about 12pm, 2 hours before check in time but the receptionist held our bags so that we could go for a walk around York until our room was ready. The hotel is right next to the minster in the centre of York and is surrounded by lots of restaurants and pubs so perfect for a short trip as you don't have to go far for everything you want in York.
We returned to the hotel later to check in and the process was quick and easy. The receptionist informed us that the lifts were out of order and asked if we were ok with the stairs which we were. I assume had we been unable to use the stairs we would have been offered a ground floor room but this wasn't necessary. A porter showed us to our room, stopping at the restaurant, bistro and bar on the way and explaining about the facilities available. Our bags were already in our room which was very nice. We chose a small room but it was ample in size with plenty of space to put clothes as well as plenty of room to walk around the room. The bathroom was small but plenty big enough. The whole room was lovely and clean and nicely decorated. We could see the minster from our window at the side of the hotel which was nice and we weren't expecting. There was also an anniversary card from the hotel in the room which was a nice touch.
After a day of sightseeing around York we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant which had also received good reviews and we weren't disappointed. The food was reasonably priced and excellent quality. The service was also very good.
We found our room to be quite warm but otherwise comfortable. The shower was very powerful and easy to control.
When we went downstairs for breakfast we were greeted by friendly staff who explained what was on offer and how to order. There was a cold buffet selection with several types of cereal and museli, fresh fruit, yogurt, bread and pastries as well as several kinds of fruit juice. The hot menu consisted of porridge, waffles etc. and a large choice of cooked breakfast items. We had some food from the buffet while we waited for our hot food to arrive. Everything was lovely and fresh and nice quality. The cooked food was the same. The sausage and bacon was very nice and stated on the menu it was locally farmed meat. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the scrambled egg as it was very creamy which wasn't to my taste and not a reflection on quality. My husband had poached eggs which looked very well cooked.
When it was time to check out the receptionist wished us happy anniversary and we left our bags with the hotel while we spent the day in York and collected them before leaving later in the day.
Overall a nice hotel and we would stay here again. The food was very nice and the hotel is near all the main attractions and shops in York.

Room Tip: Our room was across the street from a pub (as are quite a few of the front/side facing rooms) which...

This was for my birthday celebration. On booking through Booking.Com the only room offered for our two night stay was a small double. This hotel is in a great location a 10 min walk from the railway station/museum, right opposite the York Minister and a few minutes walk from the river and the centre area where you have the shops, market and the Shambles - the old part of York. You cannot get a better located hotel. Prior to arrival we requested a better room if one became available. On checking in we were allocated Room 33 the small double. My advice is that unless you are under 5ft 3 do not accept a small double. It was small in every sense no sleep due to small bed and stuffy room. I have suggested that this should be for single occupancy. The next morning after an excellent breakfast we enquired if an upgrade was available we were told yes. We moved to Room 22 which was excellent cost us an additional £20 but was well worth it. I was surprised that rooms were available and given my pre-arrival enquiry I would suggest that the offer to move the next day should have been made when we arrived.

The staff in the hotel are excellent. In the evening eat in the Bistro the food is excellent, well cooked and presented and value for money or go out and enjoy the fine restaurants of York. Avoid the hotel restaurant for dinner soulless, not popular with guests and food uninspiring. In all with the advice given about the room choices a hotel to be recommended.

My last experience was a good one, we just walked off the street in hope for a room and were not disappointed. This trip, I pre-booked a room and wow, what a difference.

Our first room was lovely but this room was amazing! We had a lovely corner room, right next to the Minster. Excellent views out of each window and I enjoyed sitting and watching couples pass by holding hands and snuggling listening to the church bells in the evening.

The room was spacious, with two large single beds (as requested), a large couch, great sized TV and lots of nice pillows, fluffy towels and toiletries. Our service tray was well stocked, but no biscuits this time, which was a shame. But enough tea, coffee and milk to last through the night.

Bathroom was very, very spacious, shower pressure fantastic and the toilet flushed well. (something we had issues with at other places we stayed in)

Breakfast this time was much better. The two waiters/servers were nice, funny and chatty, made great recommendations and served the food very professionally. A nice selection of cereals and fruits and plenty of hot food choices too.

Will definitely come back here if we are in the York area again. Central to the shops, transport, cafe's and restaurants and right next to the Minster.

Room Tip: If you dislike the sounds of the evening bells, bring some earplugs or ask for a room away from the...

I spent many nights over a 10 week period back in 2000, and always thought the hotel was good but a little tired and it was more about location than any real substance of service or quality. I returned recently for a single night stay and chose to stay next to the Minster as an overseas colleague was joining me. I was absolutely delighted, the hotel now does itself justice, along with the fantastic location, you get excellent service, the beds are quite possibly the best I have stayed in (in UK). Decor and quality of the bedroom in general exceeded my expectations, as did the overall experience..... Will definitely be staying again when the opportunity arises.

We recently returned from a long weekend. I had wanted something special for my partner as it was her birthday. I was not disappointed. The hotel is in a really wonderful location close to York's attractions and shops. We had the Holgate suite overlooking the Minster and I heartily recommend it. The service throughout our stay was second to none being very helpful and friendly - a quiet unfussed professionalism. From the opening welcome, car valet service, room service, restaurant service and quality of food we have nothing but praise. We thouroughly enjoyed ourselves and my partner felt pampered, just what I hoped for. The birthday card from the team was a particularly nice touch. Only downside was the fine waiting for me from crossing the cursed Lendal Bridge - drivers beware. This has not dampened our enjoyment though and we will certainly return.

Room Tip: The view of the Minster from front of hotel rooms is a must. Try for the Holgate suite if you can.
