“Great location and very helpful staff”
Reviewed 23 September 2008

The Best Western Dean Court is surprisingly good, but then for the price it should be. It’s location is perfect for exploring York. The staff on arrival were very helpful and provided us with maps, money off vouchers and recommendations. At check in we were taken by a member of staff to our room. We stayed in room 20 a double/twin room. The décor isn’t bad, although it is let down by small touches, such as a carpet that doesn’t match the rest of the furnishings and wood work that has clearly been repainted and repainted over the years without ever being sanded down, so it looks a bit shabby. The bathroom looked new and was a good size. Overall I was pleased with the room. Breakfast wasn’t bad either but service was a little slow, we ordered more toast and after 10 minutes gave up waiting.
If you’re looking for a hotel which is central to all of the shops and museums in York then I would recommend this hotel.

Brilliant!

Booked a couple of nights away from the kids! I don't normally talk in superlatives- but when you stay away a fair few times a year as we do, you get to sense a great hotel.

We couldn't fault it really. Like others we chose it for its location- but wow! The staff are really on the ball. A really warm welcome and nothing seemed to phase them. We spent time just sat relaxing and heard them talking off-guard as it were. They are really caring.

Because of the bad weather we stayed in one night and ate in the bistro having met Bertie(?) the barman earlier, who made my wife a special cocktail having overheard she likes raspberries!! How cool is that! Great food and not expensive for a 4 star hotel.
Breakfast ( my favourite meal) was superb, more importantly we felt wanted.

Rooms are all very trendy and everything worked

The city is on the doorstep - so all in all a great place - we highly recommend it. Faults? Well to be picky- it would be good to not have to pay for car-parking - but then it is a city centre.

The Dean Court is literally across the street from York Minster making it an ideal location for sigjht-seeing in York. And sightseeing in lovely, interesting, historic York is indeed something you want to do. The hotel is fairly typical of older style UK accommodation, converted from three townhouses which can mean some circuitous routes to rooms. Besides its perfect location, the other great feature of the hotel are the staff who are exceptionally friendly and helpful. To our surprise, we were greeted and welcomed by a fellow Canadian!

Hotel is right in front of Minster, so location is excellent. Other than location, room was small and not worth the price. View of Minster was nice though, and you are in the heart of the city here. About an 8 block walk from train station, and a lovely walk it is.

Not much to hotel other than location. Small reception and bar area.

If you are travelling by train the hotel is an easy walk from the station--just ask for directions at the tourist office. Reception was very cordial. I think I was given an upgrade as my single room was in fact quite a spacious double with a Minster view to boot. The room looked as though it had been recently refurbished and the bathroom was large with ample storage space and updated fixtures. I only had breakfast at the hotel and found the room very bright and pleasant and service was prompt and helpful. And they even make a point of offering to let you leave your bag if you want to do some sightseeing after check-out time. I would definitely stay here my next time in York.

After several stays at the DCH I can say honestly that you will never find a better location for exploring York, in conjunction with this fact it is very quiet at night which is very unusual for such a central hotel, we ate in the Bistro for the 5th time and were as usual very impressed with the standard of both service and food, we also ate in the restaurant but it was a little too pretentious for us.

The staff were on a whole ok, it seemed to go from one extreme to another, some were blatantly too happy and looked a little false and others were grumpy and you could clearly tell they didn’t want to be there, if only they could find a happy medium!

Drinks in the bar are a little on the pricey side but that tends to keep out the revelers who you can often get a weekends, the surroundings are fantastic and very relaxing, the seating is very spacious and you don’t feel like you are sitting on top of another party.

The room was great, we were on the back of the hotel again and the view wasn’t fantastic, however I did ask for a quiet room and this is exactly what I got, I never heard a noise all night and if sacrificing a view from the front of the hotel means peace and quiet I am ok with that.
The room was comfortable and in good order, it had all the modern amenities you would expect from a good quality hotel, please don’t expect huge rooms like to get in modern PTI’s as this is a Victorian building, the room was warm and cosy!

Breakfast was fantastic (and i have to say the full English really sets you up for the day), the choice was great and the service couldnt be faulted, if you are down early enough get a seat by the window overlooking the Minster, it is a fantastic view.

We ordered room service which was unbelievably fast and of very good quality, we also stayed recently at the Hotel Du Vin which is on a similar class but unfortunately quite a walk away, this really is a fantastic place to stay and I look forward to my stay this weekend!
