If you want a modern, identikit hotel, then this isn't for you. Dean Court is charming, quirky, welcoming & comfortable, and it couldn't be better located.

We requested a room on the first floor with a view of the Minster, which was well worth paying the extra for. Our 3 night stay at the end of March was excellent. The room was a deluxe-double, but was more like a suite, with the large double bed in an almost separate room through an archway, and a comfortable living room with a slightly squishy sofa , a large coffee table and two chairs in the bay window. There was also a desk/dressing table with a mirror over, as well as a generous tea & coffee tray. There were 2 tv's, one in each room! The bathroom was lovely, with a large corner bath (although the shower curtain could be better placed to avoid the dreaded clinging!).The room was spotlessly clean. We slept well, as the Minster bells don't ring at night, and there is little street noise until morning.

Breakfast was excellent, with plently of choice on the buffet, as well as hot dishes cooked to order, toast and tea/coffee served at your table. Try the eggs benedict at least once! We ate in the DCH restaurant one evening, and had a great meal, with very good service.

The valet parking was very useful and reasonably priced. You certainly don't need your car to explore York, as you can walk almost anywhere in the centre from the hotel, with the medieval streets just a few minutes away. There are also plenty of restaurants within such easy walking distance, we ended up going back to the hotel via a longer route, just to savour the lovely streets by night.

Room Tip: First floor deluxe doubles well worth it for the Minster view!

Loved the location, but not up to the standards of Best Western. Room was large but tired. The sofa was long past it's best-before date. The shower pressure was low. The day we arrived was warm, and with air conditioning (and with only one small fan), we needed to open the windows and exposed ourselves to lots of trash dumping sounds and an incredible amount of pigeon noise. They should really warn people that there is effectively no elevator for more than one person. And worst of all, the water pressure in the toilet was close to non-existent. We complained, and someone came to fix it, but it didn't improve at all, and eventually broke altogether during our last night when we weren't about to change rooms in the middle of the night. In fact, they should not have rented the room, and should have recognized when they tried to fix the toilet that the room was unacceptable.

stayed here about 18 months ago and had a wonderful time so it was the obvious choice to stay for my son's wedding in York. Oh dear! Very disappointed! The room was small, really quite dusty, next to the cleaners cupboard and with a terrible view of the kitchen roof! No lie in for us as the cleaners were banging about very early. The shower was hopeless (no pressure) and there was no where to put our cases and no trouser press. Breakfast was ok, fresh fruit very boring and the hot food we chose on both days was luke warm, plus they forgot one of our party's food altogether. We had such a good time last time and had a fab room with an amazing view but this time the hotel ruined our experience of York.
On the plus side you do get free valet parking and the residents bar stays open as long as you want it to. Would I spend £150/night on this again? No way!

Room Tip: don't have number 45

I didn't have high hopes from this last minute booking on a bank holiday weekend, Best Western is one of those chains that really don't fill you with any kind of joy- previous experiences in Cambs and Edinburgh have been grim and the whole brand seems dated

but- this was really good- we booked last minute and got a great price for central York on a holiday weekend- and our room (14) was great- small to be honest but with huge mullion windows overlooking the Minster- I don't think there is a better located hotel.

For Budget price we were delighted and got valet parking as well plus great table service breakfast- kippers were a little salty but eggs benedict was fab

Room Tip: gets minster view

Stayed here overnight in April. Very helpful staff. Room was small but well furnished and bed was comfortable. The staff at breakfast were so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast itself was fantastic with plenty of choice. We walked out the main doors and the Minster was to the left, and the shops were within a few minutes walk. Fantastic location. We will return.

My friend and I loved every minute we stayed at the Dean Court Hotel. The great service began with the courtesy of the valet and continued throughout our stay . The room was beautiful and had lots of niceties like an ironing board, robes and even an umbrella in the closet. The breakfasts were superb as well as the lunch and dinner we has at the bistro. We were right opposite the magnificent York Minster so we could walk over any time and even heard a bell concert from our room. We were also adjacent to the medieval part of York and could walk literally everywhere. I can't say enough good things about this hotel!
