We stayed here first in 2005 when the hotel was absolutely wonderful. Returning here with the mother-in-law we were expecting more of the same. The location is absolutly fantastic (if very big church bells don't bother you). We had a room overlooking the Minster. However there were no bathrobes (the Mother-in-law got one next door) and one room wasn't ready when we checked in at 4pm. The lift was also out of service.

I got the distinct impression on a slippage in the standards of the hotel and service in the four years since I had been before. Breakfast was good, but not as good as before and the service was not as attentive.

Overall a good place to stay in York, extremely central with valet parking to dispose of your car.

Visit to York for the first time with my 85 year old energetic friend.

The Dean Court Hotel (Best Western) is the best location for visiting the magnificent York Minster (Cathedral) opposite (evening bells charming and though clearly heard by no means overwhelming). We had wanted a twin bedded room for 2 nights. As the Dean Court Hotel did not have a twin room for our first night they gave us two smallish double rooms (21 and 23) for single occupancy (at the individual rate of £115 for dinner, bed and breakfast) and were going to put us into a twin for the second night at £160 for the room or £230 for dinner, bed and breakfast (=£115 each) . However, we chose to stay in our original individual double rooms and agreed the rate of £160 each for dinner, bed and breakfast, which was worth it to us.
When we arrived at 1:30 pm the rooms were not ready for occupancy so we chose to have snack lunch in their cafe. Huge plates of fairly decent food, but one coffee tasting of stained water was exchanged for one espresso which arrived lukewarm and was duly replaced by a bitter, piping hot (microwaved?) espresso not worth drinking. Pity.
We were well received at Reception and helpful, courteous staff saw to all our needs and furnished us with maps, umbrellas, smiles and technology instructions for the electronics of our rooms. Immaculately clean, neutral, small, light but cosy rooms, with television, dvd, extensive coffee/tea making facilities with good selections, trouser press, easy safe and proper shower pressure/rapid bath and standard toiletries. WiFi free login. The beds and bedding were very comfortable and the bathrooms modern and efficient.
Within comfortable 3 minutes walking distance to quaint shops and tea rooms (try Betty's!) and all historic/cultural sites. Great photo opportunities.
Our dinner on both nights was absolutely excellent throughout its menu (2AA rosettes) and portions were generous. High quality ingredients. Excellent, attentive and friendly service.
Breakfast was well presented and the selection for cooked foods very good too. Coffee was really not great and the orange juice more industrial/made from concentrate and fruit was tinned...
If I were to return to York with a different person, I would probably opt for a boutique inn/guest house instead if it would be significantly cheaper. But on the basis of convenience, location and comfort, I would certainly return and warmly recommend the Dean Court Hotel.

fantastic location. Quiet rooms. Great valet service for dumping your car.

decor a bit tatty, rooms very small, lifts slow and hot. Annoying that they offer aircon units for hire at a rate of 25 a go!
For the standard rates this hotel is simply not worth it, why would you not stay at the premier inn for £70 and walk into the city.

We had been booked at another hotel, but it was so bad, we could not stay. We walked to the Dean Court and were cordially welcomed, offered a very good rate, and taken to a beautiful, clean room. The staff is wonderful...especially Lana...and bent over backwards to accomodate our needs. She even sent an anniversary card to our room! We'd love to go back some day to this sweet hotel and wonderful city.

Travelling to North Yorkshire for the wedding of my partner's daughter we decided to break our journey by staying the in the Dean Court. And we were very glad that we did. We were upgraded to a beautiful room overlooking the Minster. The room had a huge comfortable bed, just what you need after a long journey from the South of England, fully stocked with teas, coffees etc. The room was sufficiently large to easily accomodate the comfy 2 seater couch on which you could sit and enjoy your drink or read a book. The bathroom whilst not large was adequate and stocked with Molton Brown toiletries and a good quantity of fluffy towels. The room was on the first floor so quite near to street level but the room is so well sound- proofed that we only aware of voices in the distance. Certainly not enough to disturb us in the least. In the morning the sun was shining brightly and warmly and from our window we could see customers enjoying themselves sitting outside of the cafe opposite the hotel drinking their morning coffee etc and enjoying their newspapers or each other's company. It all helped to make for a lovely holiday atmosphere.
The receptionists were extremely helpful and friendly. They are an asset to the hotel as
guests will generally speaking get an instant impression of a hotel through their experience at reception. This hotel has won an award for best hotel and it is proudly displayed in the lobby. Staying at this hotel it is not difficult to understand why they were awarded it. We didn't even need to worry about parking as Malcolm took care of all that, taking the car and parking it in a secure compound and then collecting it for us the next day. We were able to leave the wedding outfits in the car without worrying which was an advantage as we didn't need to haul them into the hote with us.
We had dinner in the restaurant on the night that we arrived. Again, the staff were friendly and efficient. We had a little sense of the staff being a little impatient to leave by the end of the night. We were almost the last to leave but nothing that I would worry about. The food is to an excellent standard and they have a good selection of wine by the glass. We didn't have breakfast as we were still so full from the meal of the night before. But later in the day we went to Betty's Tea Rooms for lunch and I would recommend that you don't miss it when staying in York.
This hotel is so good and we enjoyed our stay so much that my partner treated his other daughter and husband to a night's stay there on their way back from the wedding. They loved the hotel so much that they arranged to stay for two nights rather than the one that had been booked.
Without a doubt the next time we are in York we will be booking into this hotel. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Didn't know what to expect from a Best Western, but was met by a beautiful lobby and restaurant and a very professional and friendly staff. The room was very clean, and had all the amenities. Location couldn't be better at the steps of York Minster. My rate included a wonderful breakfast -- not just rolls and yogurt and fruit, but a hot breakfast with many options to choose from. Easy to recommend. Will stay again if I return to York.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel as a group of 9 ladies. I would say the rooms are modern and nice some are smaller then others, we has a nice bathroom with toiletries, there is an ironing board and Iron, hair dryers, kettle with the makings, TV and hairdryer. Beds where comfy but as two singles they where pushed together with no way of pulling them apart due the bedside cabinet at either side so that gives an idea of the narrowness of the room. We had an attic room on the top floor and the lift was broken all weekend so it was a fair way if you’re not fit with a heavy case. Some rooms had double glazing ours didn’t so at 8am Sunday the bells of the Minster where permantley ringing until about 9.30. I am sure someone thinks yes people of York I am up so are you lot!! If I saw the bell ringer I would ring him possibly round the neck! The hotel was very clean no fault there. There was not a lot of atmosphere in the hotel or the bar area it’s all a bit stiff to be honest.
The breakfast was in our opinion (9 of us) quite poor for a hotel of this class it was quite dried up and the eggs even on the eggs Benedict where hard so they was disappointing. The sausages only done on one side, undercooked mushroom only one slice of bacon, bread that was not toasted even though it was suppose to be toast, hard black pudding and NO beans !!. There are a few different things to choose from apart from full English though kippers and porridge etc there was fruit and cereals and juice. I can’t say it was horrible or anything just not what standard I would expect it was more like café STD for £3.50. The food at the night time D&C was more or less exceptional though. The lemon sole was to die for and I have not had a better steak than this in a long time. The veg was a little disappointing again dried up but the steak made up for this if I was paying full price rather than it be in with the price of the room I would have liked the veg and potato to be fresher even though we where the last sitting at 9.15pm. Again the restaurant lacked any atmosphere no background music even and the staff did seem to wan to shoo us out as soon as they could. Did not have pudding as we where all quite full. I would say ask for a low floor in case the lift goes down and for a double glazed room. I would say that the night porter deserved a medal he served us drinks into the small hours and helped a few of the ladies to their rooms as it was a big hotel a few had got lost tin the wrong part. All in all the is a cracking location but I thought the price did not reflect particularly good value I would give it a 6.5 out of 10 above average but not exceptional for the money I think you could get better value nicer breakfast and maybe a double glazed room to keep the ringing at bay. Nice view of the Minster though and a good location for everything but I am sure a lot of other hotels. We went for a meal in Rustique I am going to sound like a real moaner but the food wasn’t that good there either. I can recommend the Plonker just off the riverside don’t go to the one that’s next to the Kings Arms I cant remember the name OF IT BUT THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE THEY SERVED BLACK CSOGGY CHIPS. We complained and nothing was done about it the polish waitress just shrugged and walked off!! There is one bar that’s called Lindells cellar Nr Hawkes bar this has the best steal butty ever and it was inexpensive with good service smalls a bit funny tho as its in a cellar fab though. We also went to the Jorvik and the Dungeon the Dungeon was a scream would do it again and I recommend it for a gang of girls to do. We also did the open top tour bus again with it. The night life is good but expensive for drinks lots of bars and clubs as well the the quieter shambles side. Had a fab time would recommend anyone come to York.
