“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 8 October 2009

We stayed here a couple of days ago, and I have to say that this is the best hotel we have stayed in in a long time (The consensus was that it was better than two well known 5* places in central London). I'm not going to repeat all the superlatives of other raters in much detail, but the service is excellent, the location ideal, the food tasty (at least the breakfast & bistro - we didn't eat in the resturant); and the rooms (at least the two we saw) are modern, comfortable and very clean. We were in room 36 and that room was beautiful - sofa and two armchairs on the top corner of the hotel, with views of the Minster.
The only formative feedback would be that areas of the hotel are looking a bit 'tired'. The carpet in the resturant looks filthy - a bad choice of colour; Damp is showing in the ceiling in the room at the top corner of the hotel; complimentary toiletries (including conditioner), rather than the pump dispensers would be appreciated. Scuffing and chipped paint in the public areas; A cigarette recepticle would be a good idea outside (away from the entrance); Toilet a nightmare to flush - again, room 36.
These things did not in any way make our stay any less memorable, but these things, if left to continue, might see this hotel getting trade just because of it's location, and not because people love staying there. Don't get complacent, Dean Court!

I stayed here for one night with my mum and we had a lovely stay. The hotel is small and personal .Despite a slight trauma in the bistro when the salt cellar broke in two and ended up in my soup and all over my jeans the hotel staff were fantastic and came to my aid and the matter was resolved perfectly. We had a first floor front view room which was huge and well decorated. It was very quiet and peaceful. The rooms were clean and with plenty of little extras. The staff bent over backwards to make the stay a memorable one. York is lovely and the hotel could not have been in a better locaton. Breakfast top quality and plenty for every one. Car was taken from the front when we arrived by a member of staff and returned when we left the next day. All in all a great two days and would definately stay again and recommend to friends and family. Thanks very much to all the staff.

We looked at many reviews for hotels in York before booking a long weekend for our wedding anniversary. Some reviews were not all that good, speaking of scruffy premises and noise. Although a bit more expensive than most, the Dean Cort Hotel reviews seemed quite good in general. We found that the hotel was nicely positioned near to the shopping area and right opposite the Minster. Although slightly faded and in need of some upgrading the hotel was clean and pleasant and the staff courteous and efficient. We asked for a quiet room and despite the bells from the Churches nearby and the traffic, it was indeed quiet and peaceful. Lots to do in York, Railway Museum (Free!) York Castle Museum is a must, loads to see, you could spend a day there. York is quite small by city standards, a walk on the City Wall is good, and there is a service (Again Free!) from volunteer guides who take you around twice a day for a couple of hours. A good way to find out some history and get your bearings. Loads and loads of eating places, very noisy in town on Saturday night and we ended up going back to the hotel for an evening meal. Didn't fancy the menu in the dining room, seemed somewhat too fussy so we dined in the hotel bistro. Lovely and quiet, candlelit, low music, warm and cosy and a nice light evening meal. Loved our stay in York, steeped in ancient history.

We stay in hotels regularly and this was amongst the best we've been to. My husband booked the Dean Court for my birthday weekend, staying in a superior double with a wonderful contemporary feel, overlooking York Minster. We ate dinner in the DCH restaurant before going onto some bars in town, as we'd heard good reviews and it absolutely exceeded expectation. Having dined at a number of Michelin starred restaurants, we can honestly say the food is a match and the wine list is excellent. The staff are impeccably polite and offer the perfect level of attentiveness. This hotel is a must if you want the perfect weekend in York and the breakfast is to die for - try the belgian waffles with hot syrup and chocolate sauce!

We recently stayed in York and split our stay between the Hilton and Dean Court. Dean Court is quite a posh hotel right in front of the glorious Minster. It is a lovely looking building - particuarly at nigt with the Minster towering over it - with an excellent restaurant and nice rooms. It is very quiet, bearing in mind where it is. It is slightly pricey but you get your money's worth as it is nicer than most of the hotels in York. The service is very good. The staff are always helpful, from room service, to explaining the tv and recommending tourist attractions (the concierge told us about the York Viking Walk, which we all thought was excellent!). This is a hotel I would definitely go back to.

My husband and I stayed here for our 10th wedding anniverary. Because it was a special occassion the hotel surprised us and very kindly gave us a complimentary upgrade to a fabulous room with four poster bed, overlooking the Minster. They'd even put an anniversary card in the room for us! The room was well decrated and very clean. I had been a bit worried about the noise from the bells given the hotel's proximity to the Minster but the double glazing did the trick. It didn't eliminate the bells alltogether but considering they start ringing every 15 mins from 6am, i didn't hear them till 8.30am.

The staff throughout the hotel were really friendly and chatty. The valet parking service was great, the porter always available to help, the receptionists were friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel and its services, plus about the area in general and had lots of recommendations for things to do and places to see.

The restaurant staff were attentative without being overbearing and the food was delicious. When we came down for breakfast they had saved us the corner table overlooking the Minster. Those in the know as for table 9 when making a reservation for dining!

The bar area could have perhaps been a little more enclosed instead of feeling like a narrow throughfare, but the service was second to none and the cocktails very moreish!

We made a point of writing to the hotel afterwards to thank all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable and they wrote us a nice letter back.
We will definitely be staying here again.

We stayed here first in 2005 when the hotel was absolutely wonderful. Returning here with the mother-in-law we were expecting more of the same. The location is absolutly fantastic (if very big church bells don't bother you). We had a room overlooking the Minster. However there were no bathrobes (the Mother-in-law got one next door) and one room wasn't ready when we checked in at 4pm. The lift was also out of service.

I got the distinct impression on a slippage in the standards of the hotel and service in the four years since I had been before. Breakfast was good, but not as good as before and the service was not as attentive.

Overall a good place to stay in York, extremely central with valet parking to dispose of your car.
