“''Enjoyable stay''”
Reviewed 19 January 2012

Having stayed at this hotel before we decided to return. We stayed for the new year and what a great time we had.
All staff were friendly and efficient.
Room was clean and the bed was lovely and cosey, also the shower area was excellent.
Good choices for breakfast and also evening meal was good too.
Brilliant location, just nice for walks by the river.

We look forward to visiting again soon.

Stayed here when extending a recent business trip to York.

The room was a good size, with some good amenities including mini bar, safe, iron and ironing board. It also had a door leading to the entrance which is ingenious as helps block out some of those hotel noises on corridors.

Bathroom clean and with a separate loo. Downside was the bed. I think classed a queen it's not as big as a King and it wasn't that comfortable. Woke up with back ache both mornings.

It is relatively conveniently located close to city. if you're looking for something more quaint then maybe one of the B&Bs/hotels I walked past on Tadcaster road would be better. This is a more modern building but has everything you need there including restaurant, bar, pool..

This hotel was a last minute booking after deciding to stop over in York. Super hotel, staff friendly & helpful, Room was lovely, warm and clean, gorgeous big comfy bed (which we didnt want to get out of the next morning). Shower spacious (would of liked a non slip mat in there) We didnt eat at the hotel but I'm sure the food would of been tasty. Novotel is not too far a walk from the center of York and a pleasant walk and is'nt full of rowdy drinkers like some of the central hotels I had previously stayed at. I certainly will be using this hotel in the near future with friends & family.

Excellent mattress! Good food. Convenient location. Helpful staff.
Until checking out the stay was very good. Unfortunately, the checking out process was very slow and the complimentary extras offered (due to a booking mix up) had been charged for.
However, on the whole we would visit again.

Weighing up all factors, this is a good choice as a base for a city break or as a business stopover; near York town centre and amenities, parking on-site (payable), a wee swimming pool to keep the kids happy, xbox and play area in reception lounge, nice dining room with decent breakfast (although I'd eat out at night rather than resort to the overpriced and brief menu - plently of choice locally), pleasant and helpful staff on reception and in diningroom. The rooms are a little cramped, but well equipped and clean; no complaints at the price we paid. It's not the glam option, but I'd stay again for the convenience and value.

Booked a last minute room and upgraded to an executive room as this included free broadband, a coffee maker and Bose docking station (and because it was only £7.95 to upgrade). Also paid for breakfast at time of booking as offering 50% off if you did this.

The hotel was slightly difficult to find - don't just trust your sat nav with the postcode, make sure you read the directions on hotel page. We were later advised that due to housing at the end of the road the hotel can not put out the normal signs up. Easily found car park space (this costs extra - £7 for 24 hours)

Reception staff came across as genuinely friendly and were quite helpful when I asked about places to eat. As it happens we managed to find a gorgeous restaurant (The Limehouse) without their help.

We were pleasantly surprised by size of room (could easily have accommodated children on the fold out sofa bed). The rooms were modern and clean with the exception of the loo itself which was like a loo in a council toilet block (obviously cleaner than the average one). Could easily have been made 'warmer' by a couple of pictures or small shelf etc

York City centre a 10/15 minute walk. To me the walk between the hotel and the city centre felt 'safe' to me as well which was a bonus and unusual nowadays (I sound like my Dad).

Slept well and ordered in our breakfast for a £3 tray delivery charge. Ended up ordering far more than we wanted as no option to put 1 full English breakfast, 1 bowl of cereal etc so they assumed as 2 in room deliver 2 of everything!!! We did our best . The continental breakfast elements were lovely and fresh but sadly I would not recommend the hot breakfast to be delivered as it was, at best, tepid when it arrived. BTW we struggled to find space to put the trays however it was only afterwards that we noticed the TV table/desk actually swung out giving twice as much space.

Did try to use broadband but found that the connection wire was the wrong type for my tablet. Slightly inconvenient but not really a big thing for me but make sure you have the proper connections if this will impact on your stay.

On leaving the receptionist reminded us that we could stay in the car park for the rest of the day if we were going to explore more of York (which we were). This was a nice gesture as did not feel at all pressured/rushed to vacate.

Want to go back and do some further exploring of York. Will be looking to stay at the Novotel.

Would I recommend? Already have!
