we have just returned today after a two day break we could not fault the place a ten to fifteen minute walk from York city centre but there are plenty of bars and little cafes on the way.
the rooms were basic but clean and the bed was very large and very comfy clean towel's both days ,also tea and coffee replenished both days.
The staff we spoke to could not have been more helpful perhaps people need to realise they are doing a job and treat them with respect
we will defiantly be going back here and will also be recommending it to friends.

Dear Anne,

Thank you for your review and rating.

The Elmbank is situated 600 metres from the City boundary wall to the south side and a mere 700 metres from the train station. We are close enough without being in the thick of things.

We have a Restaurant on site and as you say there are many more on our doorstep.

The Management and Staff would like to thank you for your recommendation and hope to meet again.

visited last week, the hotel is a fair walk from the city, the communal rooms were comfortable with a fire in the lounge and the dining areas pleasant, the room we had was rather small and not overly comfortable it did have a sort of balcony but it was outside a window and not accessible from the room so rather pointless,The heating was off during the day and the room was not cleaned in the 3 days we were there, tho the bins were emptied and clean towels left. The staff in the breakfast room was helpful and very pleasant but one of the reception staff was really in the wrong job!Our neighbors supplied our entertainment with their discussions , but we could tune out by increasing the volume of the television.

Dear Patricia,

Thank you for your review and rating.

The Elmbank Hotel is a Grade II listed building which still retains many of the original features. I am not sure if the balcony would have been generally accessible in the house's original state but for safety reasons access is only for maintenance nowadays. When the building changed to an Hotel partition walls were added.

Staff are on hand to resolve any issues that may arise during your stay, even if neighbours get too entertaining, we are always here to help.

The Management and Staff hope you will visit in the future.

We found this to be a place of contrasts. The building has a lot of character. A fantastic communal area complete with fire, wood paneling and comfortable furnishing. Room was a good size and the bed extremely comfortable, but quite cold, despite the inclusion of an electric heater. The bathroom was perhaps most disappointing. The shower lacked any power, and the toilet flush required a firm pump.
One thing I can certainly agree with previous posters is the issue of location. Unless you are seriously lacking in mobility then Elmbank is in a great spot, easily within walking distance of Micklegate, the station, and the river. Would recommend if you are looking for a cheapish option with personality.

Dear Nicholas,

Thank you for your review and rating.

The Elmbank Hotel is a Grade II listed building which has lots of character.

Refurbishments have commenced which is a slow process as York is a very popular City.

The Hotel is 600 metres from the City boundary walls and 700 metres from the train station. There is a taxi stance and bus station directly outside the main entrance of the railway station which makes things easier if you have large luggage. Our Reception team will be more than happy to arrange a taxi from the Hotel into town.

The Management and Staff are glad that you chose the Elmbank Hotel & Lodge and hope to see you in the future.

We stayed here for 1 night on valentines day and were pleasantly surprised after seeing some of the reviews on here. Staff are really friendly and efficient. Room was basic but clean and a decent place to rest your head. Bar in the hotel not too badly priced and a great place to start off while waiting for taxis. We didn't eat here so can't comment on that but it smelled lovely. I would recommend this place to others as a good base to explore the city of York as it is not that far from the centre.
