“Excellent visit”

We stayed for two nights, in one of the rooms in the converted stable block, and would recommend it very highly. Our stay included a celebratory Sunday lunch for six, which was very successful.
The staff are charming and attentive, and we found the general atmosphere to be relaxed without losing formality. Food was just right and, for the quality, well priced.
The Spa is good - decent sized pool, plus steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi all include in the price. We didn't try any treatments, so can't comment on them.
The gardens are magnificent. It's worth making sure you have a change of shoes (even boots) with you so that you can explore the whole park.

I took my other half hear for their birthday meal.

I was a bit wary as I thought it may be a bit formal and stuffy but both the food and staff were great.

A good selection of wine at prices you would expect to stay somewhere like this.

Just wish we had stayed but couldn't find an excuse when I only live about a mile and a half away!

We will certainly be back again,

Old world charm, elegance, and a step back in time!

Though costly, the Middlethorpe Hall and Spa was a once in a lifetime experience. I am so happy I got to experience a place like this!

The service was impeccable, the staff was gracious and accommodating, and the gardens were beautiful.

You can't walk to the city of York from the grounds but that would add to the charm for those looking to escape the busy city! Luckily, it is only a short cab ride.

Once a large private house, now restored as a country hotel, this is a very pleasant place for a weekend break. It is old fashioned, but that's why you're there - a sort of Downton Abbey experience. The service is excellent, and the restaurant very nice for dinner and breakfast. One of the pleasures is simply sitting around reading the papers, having a drink or strolling in the gardens (where, sadly, lies its one drawback, the road noise, commented on elsewhere - hence the slight markdown for location). I like staying in the main building, though others might prefer the converted stable block which has been beautifully restored in a sort of National Trust way. Recommended.

This is a beautiful country house of great architectural interest with the most stunning garden, unfortunately compromised by the proximity of a busy A road. However our room in the former stable block was very quiet at night and we did not hear road noise at all. We had dinner in the dining room - expensive but good. I would have liked to see an informal dining room where we could have had a more simple supper as we were not celebrating a special occasion - just staying overnight en route from Morecambe to Bridlington (170 miles coast to coast) on our bikes. We were thrilled to be away from York city centre which was heaving on Saturday evening. The staff were very kind to us and, although we arrived lycra-clad on bikes, we were treated very well indeed. We did of course change for dinner!

I organised a small (approximately 30 persons) function at Middlethorpe Hall and was delighted with the quality of accommodation food and service.

We had dinner in the Yellow Room and then, after a comfortable night's sleep, a meeting in the Barlow Room, punctuated by a lunch in the Grill Room.

All 3 locations were spot on for the activities required, the Staff could not have been more helpful and the food was excellent.

With proximity to the racecourse and the starting point for the second day of the Tour de France, watch the Middlethorpe space (from the air you will see the image of a bicycle lovingly mown into the grass). I assure you that you will not be disappointed.

We had a very warm welcome on arrival and stayed in the cottage suite just 100 yards down from main hotel. The cottage had plenty of space and a peaceful patio garden and area to park a car. When we entered the cottage we found some lovely personal touches such as homemade shortbread biscuits in a tin, fresh fruit on table, bottle of Middlethorpe spring water and tea and coffee supply. We enjoyed superb breakfasts at the hotel each morning, served by very professional and cheerful staff. The choice for breakfast was very good indeed. We explored the hotel grounds which was a real treat and very relaxing. We made use of the swimming pool and spa facilities whilst we were there which was clean and well maintained. The hotel was very accommodating towards children staying. All in all we would definitely recommend staying at Middlethorpe Hall and Spa. It was a wonderful place to stay!
