We booked this hotel for the night of July 12 and upon reading the negative reviews, I'll admit I was worried. As it was, the hotel was fine.
We parked in the hotel's underground car park and we were warned about the £15 cost twice, so no excuses if you don't know. Check-in was quick and friendly. Our room overlooked the side and back of the hotel and we overlooked a courtyard and a church, no complaints there. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable.
I was a bit surprised that there was no mini-bar as I like to buy milk and store it there for my tea (which was supplied). The bathroom was small but perfectly formed and breakfast was wonderful. Poached eggs with runny yolks is something you don't often find in hotels in England.
On the down side, internet access is £15 a day (was free at the Radisson in Durham) and a bottle of water left in the room is £3.95 which is just outrageous.
I booked this with LastMinute.com and got a good rate, but if you add all the little extras like car parking and internet, then is will be expensive.
What sells this hotel is the location, it is brilliant and it's worth putting up with the small negatives for the huge positive.More
