Certificate of Excellence

The Kilima is a little way from the centre of York (about a 20 minute walk to the Minster - 12 mins to the station), but it has good parking facilities. The service we experienced was excellent - from the manager in Reception through to the waitresses in the restaurant. The bar and restaurant are both quite cosy and the quality of the food was first class - both breakfast and dinner. Room was spacious, clean and warm. The swimming pool is a good size. All in all an excellent choice for a visit to York.

Just back from 3 nights in this wonderful hotel. Staff are A1, chef is inspired, every meal was wonderful, breakfasts, evening meals all freshly cooked on order and terrific, however last night's dinner surpassed any I have come across in a very long time. The asparagus wrapped in parma ham, poached egg, horseradish cream sauce and salad was to die for. Followed by Thai Red Curry, I was in heaven. My partner says his meal was even better ;o) The service was excellent in the restaurant and generally throughout the hotel, easily the friendliest, most helpful people I have come across in catering/hospitality. One could not really better this place. Quiet location and lovely distance from town centre. Highly recommended and will go again hopefully.

Room Tip: The room we had was number 21 which was spotlessly clean, comfortable and airy. Did not use the spa...

Stopped here in March for four nights, the staff were polite, jovial, pleasant and very helpful, the hotel was clean and the service of the crew behind the scenes did great work as well. I dont think there is much difference between a standard or executive room, wanted a four poster but all booked out. the room was en-suite and my only complaint would be the size of the bed, too small, make your executive rooms king size. The food they do is fantastic, we had breakfast and evening meal here and the quality and volume is great, it is in easy walking distance of York and there are two routes to take. I know i have a little gripe but i plan to go there again because of the staff and its location.

Room Tip: the executive rooms are at the rear of the hotel which is quieter, but if you can go for a four post...

We stayed here last weekend and although it was a short walk from town, this was probably a good thing on a Saturday night! What was really lovely was being served a freshly cooked breakfast when you are so used to the self service buffets that most hotels have now adopted. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was very good and the portions were so generous I needed more than the walk into town to work it off. Would recommend this hotel as a very good base for visiting York.

Room Tip: Room 21 was lovely and quiet if you don't mind a view of the car park

My husband took me to York for a 'birthday' treat,we had 2 nights here and really enjoyed it.
The hotel is clean and comfortable and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
It is a good strolling distance to York city centre and only a short taxi ride for those who do not wish to walk.
Our room was spacious and our four poster bed was very comfortable,we chose to have breakfast in our room both mornings and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
The car park facilities were handy as we able to leave our car and enjoy the exercise.
A little added bonus was the swimming pool and steamroom,a welcome treat after a busy day touring the many attractions of the city.
Thank you to all the staff,we hope to return one day!

Room Tip: corner suites are roomy and nice to have breakfast in your little 'lounge' area with only a...

We have just got home from a stay at this hotel. It is a basic hotel, everything was clean and tidy, the breakfast was great. The location is a nice short walk from the town, an ideal location for us as it was out of the busy city centre but close enough for sight seeing etc. We used the pool which was nice. By far the best thing about our stay wee the very friendly, helpful staff, making us feel very at home and full of local information to help us.

Stayed two nights bed and breakfast at beginning of March. Price was good value and the hotel is in a good location within 10-15 minutes walk of pubs, restaurants and city centre. There is also a bus route that you can use that will take you to a from the city. York rail station is only 15 minutes from the hotel.

The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. There is a pool and steam room available to guests free of charge, parking and wi-fi is also available free of charge. All of which are a plus to the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, only negative was that the doors to the rooms banged shut so you could hear the people who got up early for breakfast. Breakfast is served in the restaurant area between 7.30 and 9.30. You are able to choose from a breakfast menu including cereal, juice, and various cooked items with tea or coffee. We felt that breakfast would have been more enjoyable if it had been self service apart from cooked items as there were only two staff serving.

If you are looking for a good value hotel in a good location with friendly staff then this hotel would meet your needs.

Room Tip: We requested a quiet room away from main road.
