“Nice reception area shame about the rooms”
Reviewed 9 August 2011

1st impression was nice clean up to date hotel but when we tried to check in on arrival at 3 the room wasnt ready!! the man on reception was stinking of body odour and wearing what was meant to be a white shirt. it was grey and over boiled with thick orange sweat patches. everything seemd fine until we got to our room, it was painted white with marked walls.out of date furniture and stained scruffy carpets.it had a stench of wet dog! the linen was over washed stained and smelly. the bed was terrible and it felt like a plank of wood, i didnt dare look under the covers to see what was there. 1 good point was the bathroom was modern and clean. there seems to be no sound proofing at all you get alot of noise from the corridor and other guest rooms!!!!

Was looking forward to a nice comfortable, relaxing break but was given a dirty room with a skylight view, when I spoke to the hotel staff she was very apologetic and moved my daughter and myself to another room which was again dirty and smelt of damp dog. We were extremely disappointed and advise others to look for another hotel as this one clearly needs an overhaul as carpets smelly and stained and facilities very basic and poor for the price. Some staff were helpful but embassassed and others could not care less. The hotel in my opinion is used for people to crash after being out drinking and they hold no regard for families as they shout and scream when they return. If you want a quieter environment I would not choose this one.

Room Tip: Placed in a room on the1st floor near the lifts very noisy due to to creaking floorboards and guests...

The beds were the worst. We had twin beds which were a plank of wood with no sides and the mattress kept falling off the sides. There was no hot water...well you had to run the sink tap for five minutes so hot water would come through. The shower was covered in mold, there was no loo roll, the room wasn't cleaned during our stay and the room was hotter than hell! Which was the worse part as the air fans did not work.
On the good side, the breakfast was really nice and the staff were pleasant. It was a good walk into the city, so i advise a hotel closer to the centre. The trip was wonderful and York is amazing! Greatly advise a trip to York...just not this hotel....wish i paid a little bit more for a better hotel which was closer to the centre.

Worst problem was the beds. Two single "beds". Both were basically a large coffee table on six legs with mattresses which were bigger than the chipboard base (making it dangerous to sit on the edges of the bed !!!) and duvets which didn't fit the duvet covers.

Parking was a major problem. Only a small number of spaces for use of residents and conference attendees. A lottery whether you will get one any time of day or night. Otherwise there is expensive on street parking meters or a pay and display some distance away.

There also appears to be the use of child labour at breakfast. A 6/7 year old girl seemed to be working at the tables and passing behind the hot food servery. Worrying.

Good location. Quiet. On bus route. Close to railway station. Good breakfast.

We seriously couldn't fault this hotel! How many hotels these days have their own free car park?
The staff were pleasant and ultra helpful - to the point where the lady on reception chased us up the stairs to tell us she had changed our room from a twin to a double room, greatfully received.
The bed is amazing - the most comfortable hotel bed either of us have ever slept in without a doubt.
It's so close to the city that you can stroll in slowly and still be there within 10/15 minutes.
If you're staying in York and want great service, and comfort then this is the place for you.

The hotel was easy to find and had a car park. Room good and clean. Very small lift. Hotel near city walls but city wall is a good walk away from centre. Rained one of the days we were there whcih spoilt it a bit but we liked York and would go back, not sure if we would stay here again but would if we could not get anything closer. Value for money.

A really good hotel, usual Ibis standard, and very close to the centre of York with free car parking.
Didnt use the bar or food but many others did.
The cleanliness and style of the room was excellent, with everything that you needed on tap.
