We stopped in 'The Chinese Room' or room 47 as it was also known! The Chinese theme in the room consisted of a few Chinese pictures and a Chinese boat on top of a wardrobe. The room was a deluxe one - giving you a higher standard of decor, more room and a large bed. Well worth the little extra money. The room felt clean and fresh, although on the wall mounted feature headboards there was a large collection of dust/fluff, and also on the Chinese boat residing on top of a dusty wardrobe. Apart from this the room was spotless. All bedding was immaculate, and the ensuite (which included a bath) was also immaculate - both areas where you really want cleanliness. Flat screen tv, useful guide books for York, and toiletries were all very welcome. We were attending a wedding, so we also experienced the food at a function. All of it was of a high quality and served perfectly. All staff were polite, professional and very efficient. Managers also were on hand to make sure everyone was doing their job, and ensured all clients were happy.
Our room was above the dining room/function room and noise could be heard - but as we were the last to party.. That didn't matter to us.
The breakfast was cleanly produced and used local sausages, and was again a high standard, although the frozen, fried hash browns could have been homemade. Somewhere of a high standard as this hotel is - you expect a little more detail from the breakfast. Service again was excellent.
We had originally booked directly with the hotel using the wedding party discount, however, we soon found out we could save a lot by booking on the net through Late Rooms. I rang the hotel who were happy to cancel my original booking, and then rebooked online! As well as saving money this way, we also upgraded to the deluxe room and added breakfast!!
Another couple had been booked into the Frankie Howerd room.. Decorated in pictures of him! They didn't like him staring down at them all of the time! So I guess some themed rooms might not appeal to everyone.
We really enjoyed our stay there, and would consider using the hotel again - but would probably check to see if any weddings or functions were booked.. As we did all seem take over the place!
Full credits to ALL of the staff who made our stay so pleasant.

We have used the Restaurant at this Hotel twice now for family lunches and never fail to enjoy it. We recently booked a table for 14 of us and the hotel very kindly gave us our own dining room which was fabulous. You may be more for a Sunday Lunch but its well worth it and the attention to detail is wonderful. We are always made to feel so welcome there and such attention to detail as that makes a lot of difference and the reason why we will go back. Just one of the waitresses has rather a miserable face but think thats just the way she is but the rest of the staff more than make up for her......just wish she would smile, would make all the difference!! Not stayed there overnight but expect it would be just as good. Can highly recommend.

We would recommend this hotel. We stayed for two nights in an apartment style room (it had a kitchenette and a small sitting area) which was great as we were travelling with our 8 month old baby. The room also overlooked a small courtyard which was nice. The staff that served breakfast were very friendly, attentive, and quick to respond to requests. It was the best customer service we've had on our trip.
The only (very slight) downside is that the hotel is not located that close to the city centre so we had to drive about 10-15 mins in each day and pay for parking. However, when you take the price we paid for the room into consideration you could hardly expect to be in the heart of the city. All in all, we found it to be really good value for money.

We held our daughter's wedding here and it was a perfect day. I really could not find anything to complain about. The canapes served after the ceremony, the wedding meal and the evening buffet were all delicious and the service at the wedding meal was excellent. Everyone was served within a few minutes of the top table and all had a hot meal of their choice. I loved the room to move around offered by the courtyard, gardens, bar and function room. We had a very happy day and all the guests were complimentary about the service offered by the hotel. The staff were all very involved and interested in making sure that it was a good day. Special thanks to Stevie on the day and Rob for his efficiency as MC.

The room we stayed in for 2 nights was large and comfortable and clean but, reading other reviews, it was not as special as other wedding hosts were given and my family members and I seem to have paid quite a lot more than other reviewers although we had the 10% wedding discount offered by the hotel. Some of our wedding guests had simply booked through the Best Western website and had paid far less than our discounted price for decent rooms. Breakfast was good though and the building is really nice. I would stay again.

The hotel was full of character and characters. It was tastefully decorated, a variety of styles and eras, but all this added to the character of the place, a relaxing lounge and lots of extra seating areas dotted around the hotel. The grounds were beautiful, again lots of sitting areas. Our room was huge, with an additional dressing area. Everywhere was spotless. Excellent service. Great breakfast. We were surprised it was only a 3 star hotel felt more like 4 star. We only paid £63.20 for B and B. What a bargain. A fantastic place to stay when you visit York.

What a great gem of a hotel..

We were lucky enought to be in this hotel on the 13th july for a family wedding.

The check in on the reception was fantastic quick and very efficent and directing us to Room 50
a great double room with a great size full bathroom with all the mod cons overlooking the garden.

The wedding was a great day and the service was lovely..

We were given canapes that were great and also the welcome drink the down side was there was not enough seating in the gardens and the bar was small and only two seats in there.

The wedding brekfast was wonderfull and also the wine choice really complemented the meal.
The evening buffet was also great but there was alot of sandwiches which are quite heavy after a day of eating and drinking. The staff throughout the day was great and very efficiante and the night time bar staff were great fun.

The bedroom was very comfortable and i thought the fully cooked brekfast was great and there was a great choice of breads and cerals.

Would i stay here again... Yes i would as i thought the hotel was a great quirky hotel with fantastic garden areas and the courtyard was amazing.

Well done a great hotel..

We had our wedding at the York Pavilion and had quite a few guests staying for two nights. Everyone seemed very happy with their rooms and loved the breakfasts. Personally I stayed the night before my wedding and the night of the wedding both rooms I stayed in (a superior double and one of the honeymoon suites) we very nice and clean.I found that the staff were all very helpful and friendly. As far as the actual wedding went we had a wonderful day and all the staff that we dealt with throughout the whole planning etc especially Kate,Sean and Carolyn were wonderful and couldnt do enough for us. The food was excellent on every occasion including breakfasts, our wedding lunch and buffet in the evening. We came away from this hotel with wonderful memories and would definaltey recommend for a stay a meal or a wedding!
