“What a hidden Gem!”

We love to visit York but it isn't always easy to find somewhere affordable and in a good position. We finally found the place! On arrival and right through our stay all the staff were eager to please and nothing was too much trouble. The room was gorgeous with a lovely 4 poster bed plenty of room for clothing to be hung and put away and a massive vathroom, with a great shower.
We drove to the hotel but driving in York isnt great so we were happy to find a bus stops almost outside the hotel and it takes you right into York! Bonus! The same bus will also take you to the designer outlet mall.
The food at breakfast was lovely and cooked fresh to order, not sitting under lights.
The dinner menu is excellent and on the night we ate there, we found it rivals many fine dining restaurants.
We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Each of the rooms has a unique theme, ours was Grandad Wooley and had a fishing theme (very quaint...

We have just returned from a midweek break at the York Pavilion and found the hotel excellent. The hotel is a grade 2 listed building and the style and interior decor reflects this, every staff member was friendly and attentive.
Celebrating our anniversary the hotel had kindly allocated us room 4 which was one of the bridal suites, room was large plenty of space, massive comfortable bed and good sized bathroom.
Breakfast served at the hotel was very good and staff were fantastic with our 18 month old daughter offering colouring books etc to keep her entertained.
Location of the hotel is just outside the city of York but only a short bus journey, free car parking was good also, if you do drive into York parking is expensive and can be difficult when busy.
York is a beautiful city with many attractions we visited York Castle museum, York Minster, National Rail museum and the Art Gallery in 2 days, shopping is excellent and there are many restaurants and bars to keep everyone happy.
Would definitely return to York again and would highly recommend the 3 star York Pavilion to family and friends, remember if it is character and charm you want from a small hotel to look no further.

Just returned from York Pavilion Hotel. The staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was really good. We had dinner in the Brasserie which was a really relaxing atmosphere and the Breakfast was lovely. The room was very clean and comfortable. It was a little cool but they gave a a small fan heater which warmed the room in 10 minutes. I would certainly go back there.

Thank you for your kind comments, I am sorry you found the room a little cold. We have just installed 2 new boilers at the Hotel as part of our ongoing maintenance plan which should alleviate this issue. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

I stayed in this hotel for a week on business. The reception staff were friendly and efficient and my room was clean and pleasantly furnished. My room (in the courtyard at the back) was let down by being rather chilly at times and as the radiators were switched on or off centrally I wasn't able to correct this. Being at the back of the hotel there was no traffic noise but the walls were very thin and I experienced a lot of noise from adjoining rooms ( just through normal use not because the guests were especially noisy). I was unable to connect to either my mobile network (o2) or via the (free) hotel wifi in my room. I ate in the hotel several times. The food was always of a good standard and occasionally very good. Service was generally helpful and very good.

Dear Melusine
We appreciate your constructive comments and it is pleasing to read you had an enjoyable stay. We are busy upgrading and refurbishing the Hotel at present and have installed a new fibre optic WiFi service which is free to all guests. This has just been completed and may have been the reason for the poor reception during the transition, my apologies for this. We hope to see you again soon.

We realy did get the frendliest welcome from all the staff we met at this hotel.
We were originally given a nice but compact room thet had doors that opened onto a shared balcony. The roo had a 4 post bed that looked great and apperared to be comfortable but infortunatly due to a problem with our online booking we needed to change rooms.
The Staff were extremely helpful and we were promptly given another larger room on the opposite side of the hotel. Just a regular bed in this one but still extrememly comfortable.
The room was rather hot and the window was stuck/painted shut and there is no airconditioning.
We noticed that the Decor in the bathroom of both rooms was very dated and tired. The cleaning was faultless but it is clear this hotel could do with a bit of a refurb in the bathrooms and also some of the public areas.
The hotel offered a good hot and cold breakfast and clearly had ben busy that night as guests were spread about the many rooms on the ground floor to eat.
As mentioned elsewhere the location os out of the city centre but there is a plesant walk by the river close by or a handy bus service but if taking the bus out of town be prepared for the trafic jam that i am told often occurs allong this road.
Overall I would discribe this as a comfortable hotel with good staff that could do with a minor refurb (but that shouldnt detract from a good experience)

This hotel was a combination of good value, good location and comfortable accommodation in the tourist and business hot spot that is the City of York. The room (with breakfast included) was significantly cheaper than comparable 3-star hotels in the city, and although it is not in the centre it is fairly close by in quiet surroundings. The accommodation reflects the origins of the hotel as a rather grand Georgian farmhouse, with several outbuildings now incorporated into the complex.

As others have noted, it is possible to walk into the centre - although not when the river Ouse is high enough to flood! - but if you want to keep dry yet avoid the hassle of traffic and the cost of parking, take the number 7 red line Park & Ride service. It stops literally outside the hotel and takes under 15 minutes into the city centre for £3.50 all day return; compare this with £2.20 per hour in a long term car park (if you can find a space), and even more for short term parking.

The breakfast was fine, although the buffet was cramped at times, and hot food orders are taken at your table - unusual for this hotel category. We tried the evening dinner menu on the first night; the service was faultless and the food was outstanding yet reasonably priced, so we went back on the remaining three evenings and were not disappointed. The room was comfortable and clean (apart from a shabby carpet), and the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful without exception.

One or two downsides: a couple of things in our room needed fixed and were reported on the first day, but did not receive attention at all. There was a wedding on the Saturday, but noise was less of a nuisance than the anarchy in the car park, which cannot cope with a full hotel.

But overall we would definitely return for the quality of the experience at a very competitive price.

Room Tip: Far away from the function suite if possible, and it's totally quiet at the rear.

Having picked this lovely period building, with small but pretty garden and courtyard, impressive staircase and ornate rooms to have our wedding, we proceeded to plan and hold it there within 7wks! Wedding packages were provided to guide us but were 'incredibly' flexible right to the finish to accomodate our every need.Wedding planners Kate O'Hara and assistant Stevie were absolutely top class!Lovely ladies, attending to every finer detail, as well as calmly managing my many 'last minute' changes along the way, even persuading the registra to carry out our service when at first the date we wanted was not available!!The Ceremony room was lovely and the main room even better! Beautifully laid and planned out. Our master of ceremony's Rob, was excellent, cool calm and collected and very professsional, as well as friendly and charming. Manager Sean also played a part assuring me of the competence of all the staff involved throughout, and the general quality that we could expect, again with a warm and friendly mannor and he was right! Our day was perfect! The meal superb, the staff proffessional and efficient, the venue beautiful with log fires, and candles on the tables providing the 'winter ambience', and the wedding suite great. I highly reccomend the pavillion as a wedding venue and a wonderful place to stay. A BIG thankyou to all of you at the york pavillion from Mr and Mrs Osguthorpe!
