“Freezing Cold”
Reviewed 17 January 2013

Just returned from a 3 night stay at York Pavillion and a colder hotel I've never stopped in!

A lovely room with a 4 poster bed, although it could do with sprucing up a bit. But the cold was painful. Its not often I am indoors with a scarf and hat on. I had 4 other colleagues staying in other rooms and all said that the temperature was very cold.

The staff were very pleasant.

Breakfast buffet was sufficient choice but the hot breakfast choice was limited. The "full" english choice was...... a sausage, a piece of bacon, a hash brown, half a tomato, small tub of beans and half a slice of black pudding and an egg.

Meal prices are usual for hotels. We ate out in local pubs which are very good.

If I am returning to York, I wouldn't use this hotel again.

There was a roaring fire in the lounge.........a pity it didn't warm the rooms up.

Room Tip: 4 poster in room one

Stayed for 5 nights in late December room not hoovered or sheets changed during our stay most mornings at breakfast which was chaotic to say the least we noticed a cotton bud and old food on the floor so not impressed the rooms are dark and small but I suppose this hides the dust and finally we pointed out an empty brandy glass had been left outside the entrance on a window ledge it was still there 3 days later when we checked out such a shame really because the building is charming

Unfortunately my company booked this hotel for me for a two week course I was doing locally. Unfortunate because the room was pokey, old fashioned, pathetic wifi and very noisy toilet.
Pokey - not enough room to swing a cat, or an exercise video. Old fashioned - its floral floral floral, enough of the floral!!!. Wifi - Quite sure at least one person in hotel should be able to connect to the wifi to claim it exists. Toilet - the flush is so noisy its likely to wake up every single person in the hotel, be warned. I've been in worse, and I've been in a lot better - in Belgrade, I hope my next course is there.

Room Tip: Try a different hotel.

Lovely hotel with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. The room was fantastic, warm, clean and very comfortable. They have a nice lounge to sit in with an open fire, it was like a home away from home.
Only criticism was a slightly disappointing cooked breakfast. Horrid eggs and cheap nasty sausages.
Other than that it gets a full 5 stars for everything!

After a terrible start to our trip in York at a different hotel, this was so refreshing! I still can't believe what we got for the affordable price. The hotel outside had pretty garden & court yard areas. Inside was very tasteful & staff were very helpful & friendly. The room was lovely & of a good size. Our room (number 36) overlooked a pretty court yard with a fountain. Dinner in the restaurant was amazing. Very well priced for the portion & quality received. We had a romantic dining experience with low lighting, candles & music. Did not expect that! Sleeping was ok. You can't always help others in a hotel making noise, but the bed was more than adaquate, comfortable & no outside traffic noise etc. Breakfast was of good quality & plenty of choice. I would deffinately reccommend & use again. Very happy.

Room Tip: Room 36 was at the end of a corridor so only 1 room adjacent to ours. Ease of access to stairs strai...

This was our chosen venue for an annual get together with friends to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. Despite a very wet season and semi-flooded York, a warm welcome awaited us at this character filled hotel, 2 miles outside of the city centre, in Fulford.

We enjoyed a very generous and prompt teapot upon our arrival in a comfortable lounge, despite the attention of staff being devoted to a wedding lunch in process.

Our 5 course dinner & disco was excellent. Food was superb, service very efficient and friendly, and even the DJ was the most enthusiastic we have encountered.

This is an old hotel with a rabbit warren of staircases and corridors, but all well maintained and clean. Our room and bed was very comfortable with a good nights sleep (despite us retiring before the wedding party at the other side of the hotel !).

A very good breakfast served by cheeerful staff, despite our waitress being called out at late notice because of staff shortages.

All together a very enjoyable and memorable occasion - would definately recommend to enyone visiting York.

We had our wedding reception at the Pavilion on Friday 30 November 2012. We had an absolutely perfect day and everything went to plan. All our guests loved the Pavilion and commented on how good the food and venue was. The wedding co-ordinator Kate is very accommodating and happy to help with everything both leading up to and on the day, as is the general manager Shaun. The master of ceremonies Rob was brilliant on the day. The DJ also had some great guest feedback! The bridal suite was amazing, probably the best suite we've ever stayed in, with a big comfy bed and plenty of room and the bathroom was immaculate and very stylish. The family rooms that our other guests stayed in were also very good too. There was plenty of choice for breakfast the next morning and again the food was all very nice.

Room Tip: The bridal suite was amazing!
