Whist overall the hotel was good, there were little things which rather let down the experience. Tables in both the brasserie & the restuarant are much too small for 4 people. As a result it was a struggle to fit everything on to them. Breakfast was poor. The scrambled egg masqueraded as a rubber compound. The rest of the food was just undercooked enough (the black pudding was overcooked) to spoil the whole plate (the beans were fine!). Reception couldn't answer for room service as he was overworked checking in other guestssingle handedly. Couldn't keep the sash window open as it fell down each time. Managed to find my book to wedge it open which unfortunately suffered an overnight rain cloud. Would we stay there again? Yes but we'd make sure the above issues were resolved first.

I have eaten here on two occasions and have had a great meal with good service. I have also booked my wedding here and have found the team to be very helpful. The hotel is very well presented and has a lovely atmosphere. I have viewed several of the rooms, they all look lovely, the bathrooms could definitely do with an update as they are basic.

Room Tip: Note to my rating using my iPad I knoCked swimming pool yet there is no pool, was unable to remove...

This hotel has a lot going for it. The building is beautiful, the food is good, the staff are friendly, however, the staff are a bit inefficient our restaurant reservation was lost for the entire stay except Christmas day. The receptionist was getting information for us and failed to ring us as promised. A young man in reception watched us struggle to bring our luggage inside in a howling gale without helping us.

The rooms are ok. Our room was huge but right on the road and earplugs were needed for the entire stay as even on Christmas night and Boxing day night the traffic never stopped roaring by.
The rooms at the back I am told are quieter but you can still hear the traffic and the outlook is dull. The kitchen fans here are also a draw back. However, overall it was a good stay. It is very convenient for York and the nearby designer centre as the centre has buses running all day except Christmas day.

Room Tip: We are told room one which looks at a wall but is large and pleasant is a good one to choose.

We booked this hotel for two days stay at the graduation ceremony of my cousin. It is outside the city but relatively close to the University. The main building is charming Georgian style mansion house with countless attachements hiddent courtyards and gardens. Our room was in a separate building on the opposite site of the busy street. In fact it was a small apartment with two rooms - bedroom facing garden and sitting room / kitchen facing the busy street. The place was very nice, the staff was helpfull. The English breakfast was, well, good if you like this type of food - we don't.
Recommended, you should be warned, however, that it is a healthy walk from the city centre.

If you want a fabulous place to get married then this is the hotel, The Pavilion, York. It is just off the A64 easy access for anyone and easy to find plus it has parking. The package deal (breakfast) for 18 was a deal you could not walk away from. It included a 3 course meal, coffee, flowers on the table, bridal suite, wine, cake stand, connoisseurs, room to get married in, selection of h’orderves and drink (bubbly or mulled wine or pimms) and champagne to toast all for £1,000’s. We had a 6, 3, and a 1 month meeting. They were very helpful and adjusted anything without a problem. On the big day, I could not have asked for more, the bridal suite was available for me to get ready in. There were plenty of staff who were very polite, professional and helpful, nothing was a problem. The John Barry suite looked fabulous with the fire burning, it was perfect for getting married in and then whilst they set up the table we toasted the wedding with the h’orderves. There is a cute court yard, pretty garden or lovely grand staircase to take photos. When we returned to the room for our meal the table looked gorgeous. The food was excellent, they looked after us so well through out the meal. Between the meal and the evening party there is a lovely cosy lounge to relax in. I informed them how I wanted the main room set up for the evening and the table arrangements and just before guests arrived they showed us the room and it was perfect. We chose due to the time of year a hot meal for guests and wow, it was so tasty, again everything I asked for. The tables were kept clean, staff were always busy looking after us. We retired to bed at 1am exhausted but so happy. Our guests all commented how cosy and perfect the hotel was, how friendly and helpful the staff were and how tasty the food was, what a wonderful day they had. Thank you to all the staff at The Pavilion for making our day perfect, I could not fault them. I would highly recommend this hotel.
