“Just a 35 minute walk from York City”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in July. It's the third Best Western we've used this year; and to date, they haven't disappointed. We took advantage of the walk into York, and din't use the car during our stay. We opted for a four poster room; which was quaint; clean; comfortable and very dark - as requested; with a full size bathroom. No problem picking up the complimentary in-room Wi-Fi. We were at the back of the hotel, so no traffic noise at all - another plus! Breakfast was plentiful - if a little chaotic; buffet cereal / toast / fruit, etc, and a served main - plenty of choice. The staff were helpful and friendly; in fact, no complaints at all. I wouldn't hesitate recommendation!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are very quiet

Spent 3 nights here in early July as a base from which to watch Tour de France. A good sized room which was clean and comfortable. Friendly, courteous and helpful staff together with a good selection for breakfast. Handy location for city - leave the car in the car park and catch the "park 'n ride" bus that runs past the front door !! Only drawback was that the room was "hot and stuffy" and due to the road noise we were unable to leave the window open at night to get "fresh air" - we had a room at the front above the entrance. Otherwise it was an enjoyable stay and I'd have no concerns about using this hotel again if the opportunity to revisit York occurs.

Room Tip: Not at the front if you want to have the window open overnight as road noise can be loud - it is a m...

Having had a previous good experience at the Pavilion Hotel, we decided to book two rooms on their “Sunday Snoozer” deal, one for ourselves and another for our daughter and her partner. We found the reception staff really friendly and efficient, check in was quick and easy. Both the rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable. The included cream tea and fresh scones were a delight and we enjoyed them in a secluded courtyard garden. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, plentiful and hot. The bus stops a few yards outside the hotel with easy access to York city centre and the designer shopping outlet. In our opinion this well run hotel is a jewel and with free parking and wifi and excellent staff, we can’t wait to go back again!

Have just returned from a 4 night stay during which, we celebrated our son's wedding. We had a wonderful time. From the moment we arrived we were looked after superbly. The staff were delightful without exception and I have never seen such a hard-working professional team. Nothing was too much trouble and they were unbelievably busy with two other celebrations on the same day as ours! The food was of a vey high standard and always served piping hot. The hotel is full of character with very pleasant outdoor areas dotted around where you sit and relax. We had fabulous weather which was the icing on the cake! Yes, there are areas which are looking a little tired and care needs to be taken to avoid further deterioration but overall I would certainly recommend the York pavilion as a great place to stay when visiting York. Excellent location with public transport practically on the doorstep. We will be back!

Room Tip: Even though we were near the front of the hotel there was no traffic noise. If stairs are a problem...

Once again an excellent hotel in every way. Food, cleanliness, decor, area, all 5*****. As for the staff, cannot be faulted! Courteous, friendly and professional.
The only downside to our recent stay was the extremely rude and ignorant wedding party in the room above us. The hotel does many weddings but this was the first time we have had such noisy rude guests in the room above us.

Excellent in all respects. The staff are very friendly and extremely efficient. The Pavilion is only a few hundred yards from the A19 (York Ring road) but with 7 bus services stopping outside the front gate the city centre is only a few minutes ride away.

With all hotels you hope to pay for what you get and this hotel provides a good standard, at a good price. We had lunch, 2 courses for £10, absolutely excellent value and the quality was excellent. Yes the car park is too tight with the number of cars and there can be lots of stairs to climb to our room but the hotel has character, good staff and provides decent value. A fridge in the room would be lovely.

Room Tip: Perhaps get a room out the back, it would be quieter, with less stairs
