We were there for 2 nights (Friday / Saturday). We had a very well appointed (and large) twin room and bathroom. It was only let down by a naff old fashioned CRT type TV (it appears that they have a contract that they need to complete - my advice would be to bite the financial bullet and get flat-screens installed asap). The breakfasts and the evening meal we had were well done - although the restaurant has the curse of the over-loud piped music that the staff cannot control (and on one morning at breakfast even that was drowned out by cleaning staff hoovering in the bar next door - not very well scheduled I thought). They may be aiming for business people as guests - only people on expense accounts could afford £15 per day for internet connection - I thought this was very poor and my laptop stayed in its case........

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Marriott hotel York for a weekend whilst going to York races for his birthday. We had a Grandstand room which has a balcony and a lovely view of the races. This however is the only bit thats worthy of the cost of the room. I was dissapointed with the size of the room and the lack of modern facilities. The TV was old fashioned with limitied channels, and the furniture was dated and slightly tired looking. The room overall was clean with amenities such as shampoo, tea/coffee and biscuits but no more than I would expect in any hotel.
My boyfriend rang reception for a shoe cleaning kit (as we were going to the races) and they didn't have any.
The breakfast was nice and the bar area is welcoming. I would recommmend the hotel if you are going to the races (short walk away) but it is a 10 min taxi ride into the main town. Staff at the hotel are friendly and we found York itself a lovely place to visit.

Room Tip: Get a Grandstand room if going to races, but they aren't cheap!

Our stay at York Marriott was spoilt on the first night by our room being located over top of a wedding reception, on a stairwell and just above where the smokers congregate, next to the main entrance and noisy drunk reveller in the room above, who fell asleep with his TV on full, blaring out music.
This was really an innappropriate room for someone not in the wedding party!
Because of the races being on the weekend we stayed, there were no suitable rooms to swop us to straight away. We were given a new room the second night which was much better.
The staff were as always courteous and helpful.
We were initially in room 110 - BEWARE!

Room Tip: Room 110 is a no no! very noisy from all angles

Stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely time. Used the swimming pool and jacuzzi and it was nice and relaxing. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and we had no complaints and will definetely be returning!

I recently stayed at the Marriott for 1 night, as I was attending a meeting in York. Therefore, my company had arranged for this hotel to be booked on my behalf.
check in was extremely efficient and no issues there. We dined in the restaurant in the evneing and could not fault it. Late evening, we ventured into York centre to attend a ghost walk, again arranged by my work colleagues....very interesting and memorable. York is a beautiful city and I wish i could have stayed longer.
Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of variety for everyone.
Check out was also very efficient....would i stay again ?.....probably, however, if i came back on a leisure trip, i would look to stay somewhere closer to the city centre, as I want to visit York and do lots of things....I would say this Marriott is similar to others Ihave stayed in, however can not comment too much on what others have mentioned as my room was very nice and similar to other marriott rooms where i have stayed.

At check in we were told that our card was declined due to lack of funds - quite embarrasing with a line of people waiting to check. I had to buy a card for the internet connection and go and check my bank balance. Everything was obviously fine, we used an alternative card and went to the room. Ten minutes later we had a call from reception stating that their card machine had made an error !

The room was tired, but was OK. The mattress had seen better days.

Breakfast the next morning was a tiring affair, mainly due to the fact that they only had four people working to serve and clear tables for around 100 guests. The second morning we weren't able to even get a cup of Coffee.

Definately one of the worst Marriott Hotels I have stayed in and it has the feel of a franchised hotel.

Not sure whether I would visit again.

At this hotel for business trip for 2 nights, the room was no where like those photos uploaded by others. I was at a room on the first floor above the restaurant. The room sufferend intense wear and tear especially the bathroom, cracked tiles, toilet bowl, the anti slips in the white bath tube are grey, door frame, all furniture has scratched edge, crickled wall paper from condensation. Room has a super King size bed, but not confortable. You can actually feel the spring on the bed, bed sheet has a hole on it. The windows close properly, but leaks cold air from outside. There is air con in the room but the air con is so noisy that u can't keep it on when you go to sleep. No central heating in bed room, instead, 2x portable oil heaters. Even in late augest, room could get really cold in the middle of night.

Breakfast and lunch in the restaurant was averaged, but food in the bar in the evening was extremely greasy, ordered onion ring at £3, but there is only 6 piece, accompanied with a table spoon of oil in the bowl, so as the chips that come with the burger and it took 1 hour for the food to arrive!

Out of town hotel, cost £5.00 from train station in late evening, but a long walk to town.

Room Tip: If you are not satisfied with the room, ask for a room somewhere else in the building.
