Never will I stop in a hotel by this group again. My wife and I have attended york races on our anniversary every year and always stop here. This year was a special one (our tenth) and a disaster because of this hotel. We booked a penthouse suite. Firstly our room was not ready and the default position, despite us asking for early check in, was that the rooms are not ready until 2 (the races start at 1.00 a little common sense would be to bring in extra staff on their busiest day to cope). We had anticipated this and arrived early, we said no problem and went through to their restaraunt to have lunch and kindly requested if the room be ready in an hour, ha no such luck (I think she said computer says nooooooooooo cough). We there fore had to change into our best bib and tucker in the toilets and ended up being late for the races and stuck outside whilst the first race finished.
After the races we had booked a meal in York and therefore retired to our "penthouse suite" to relax and change nudge nudge wink wink. After getting out of the shower and making coffee in the buff in the middle of the room our door was opened and in walked 4 middle aged rather worse for the wear ladies, shocked to find a naked rather flabby chap in the middle of their room. I think one of them actually swooned ( I have that effect). Seems they had the wrong room but their key opened it. I went to reception asked to speak to the manager, told she was busy and would contact me. Not a dicky bird. When leaving the next morning I asked once again but lo and behold once again too busy. I did email their customer services and the hotel did respond with we are sorry please have an upgrade (if available, Ha). For me it was not a case of having a free upgrade it was how the complaints where handled on the day and the fact all the manager did was hide. We have booked elsewhere this year, good riddance to poor service, mediocre management and a lack of post customer care. I travel worldwide and will avoid the marriotts like the plague
