Stayed for just one night with two friends.
I had requested an early check in from 12 noon, however on arrival room was not ready. The porter was more than happy to take our bags though and deliver them to the room as soon as was possible. This freed us to shop, eat and drink as planned! Had a couple of drinks in hotel bar. Nice and modern but prices almost double pub prices. Hotel gardens are beautiful and very well maintained . We stayed in room 161 which was spacious, clean and modern, plenty of room for the three of us. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic ! Loads of choice both hot and cold food. Just make sure you go early as the que to be seated is huge from 9am!! All in all a nice hotel, fantastic location for races but a little far out for town without the need gor a taxi (about £6.00) each way! Lovely pub across road called Fox & Roman, good fantastic there at reasonable prices !

No hot water, cold run down room and no heating but a small portable radiator, first trip I ever been on and looked forward to coming home..... Run down rooms, old televisions from the1980,s...good 30 min walk into town..I wouldn't stay again if it was free or they paid me!!!

Stayed here for a weekend break with my husband and 2 girls for the 3rd time. We are fans of the Premier Inn on Blossom St, York but as this was only £20 more expensive (£10 each night) we thought we would have the benefit of the pool and gym even though it is a little further out of town. That said it's still walkable and we did it 4 times with our 9 and 10 year old so it's not too far out. It takes about 25 mins to the city walls and 35 mins into the heart of the city. Buses are also very frequent. The rooms are spacious and I always think Marriott do the most comfortable beds. Breakfast is excellent but is a bit of a bun fight. We were constantly waiting for the fruit to be filled and at one point numerous people were waiting for glasses, small plates, large plates and bowls. The queuing system for breakfast is hampered by the layout, not good. My advice would be to avoid the restaurant in the evening. It's mass produced hotel food with ok service at a premium price. Not sure why you would want to eat here when there are so many brilliant restaurants in York and even excellent pubs just down the road. The kids loved the pool and it's open to 11pm and lovely and peaceful in the evening. The rooms have ice buckets and there are ice machines on all floors so take your own wine for the room.

Room Tip: Room 147 is a nice big corner family room with 2 double beds. We have had this room twice.

We stayed there for one night whilst having a night out in York. We managed to checkin earlier which meant that we could make good use of the leasure facility's. The room was clean and spacious also having a comfy bed, although the windows were small allowing limited light. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Also the bar was tastefully decorated with good relaxing sofas.

Reasonable location in to York although if bad weather or the 1.8 miles is to much a £6 taxi is reasonable.

The Marriot is a great location for the Races and the walk into the City is ok, although there are plenty of other hotels in the centre. The hotel reception is welcoming and the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The main areas look well kempt and importantly there is lots of free parking - a luxury in York. Our room was relatively small and needed an upgrade. It was hot, unbearably so at times and this coupled with very noisy lift machinery made it diffcult to get any real sleep.
Given the price we paid One would expect breakfast to be included but on the walk into York we found a ciouple of great cafe's for a thrid of the price.
Overall, very disappointing for a Marriot
