I stayed on business and had telephoned the hotel in advance to check accessibility rooms.
On arrival I was greeted by smiling, helpful staff. In fact all staff were extremely helpful.
I was on the ground floor and the room was, for me, ideal. Wide doors, sliding doors to a double wardrobe which accommodated a portable lower rail as well as a higher rail. The hospitality tray was within easy reach and well stocked. The room had plenty of space in which to turn a wheelchair. The bed was very comfortable and having the emergency cord near meant I was confident help, if needed, would come!
The shower/wet room was spacious and well considered. There was sufficient room for a wheelchair and the water drained well and was confined to the shower area leaving an area containing grab and towel rails dry.The complimentary toiletries were replenished daily, as necessary.
The breakfast bar had a selection of juices, fruit, yogurt, cereal, cheese, continental meats plus English breakfast and omelette/egg bar (cooked to order). The staff were willing to provide items not "on offer" e.g. soya milk.
If I had to complain about anything it would be the hairdryer being on the shelf in the wardrobe (in a drawer would have been better) and the position of the safe ... too high for those confined to a wheelchair.
I really cannot praise enough: the staff, the cleanliness of the public areas and the bedroom I was allocated.
As the room was provided as part of the course I was helping to facilitate I cannot comment on the price other than to say it was, for me, a top 4 star hotel and probably appropriately priced.
If other visitors have the same experience they will be delighted.

Room Tip: Phone first to explain any accessibility requirements :)

We have stayed here before and did know what to expect. However, when we visited this time the standards had definitely dropped! We were in a third floor room and when we went to freshen up the bath had a huge stain where a mat had obviously been. This is not what yo would expect from a hotel of this standard. The following evening we realised that the door of the wardrobe had come off its hinges and was just propped up against the other. If there had been children staying in the room it would have been dangerous. As we had booked a meal at a restaurant that evening we did not have time to speak to reception and we reported it the following morning. We were told that we should have brought it to their attention sooner. Is there no one over seeing house keeping in these matters!

For what we paid you do not expect these things to happen. We will go back to York but not to this hotel.

on arriving we had to wait for assistance, then we where told are room was on 3rd floor which was not a problem but was then informed that a function would be on later that day and a live band would be playing until 12 30pm ,staff said hopefully we would not hear anything being on top floor.well we did i felt sorry people on 1st and 2nd floor.breakfast was a shambles due to tables not being cleared and the hotel only had one toaster to provide toast to a full dinning room and half of that was broken.concidering this break was expensive and supposed to be a relaxing break nothing could be further apart. we will be returning to york but not to this hotel it should be renamed fawlty marriott hotel.

Room Tip: choose 3rd floor

I cannot fault our recent stay at this hotel. Reception staff were very helpful, the room was spotlessly clean with a big bathroom and lovely views of the racecourse. We ate in the restaurant at night and thought the 3 course special for £25 was excellent value for money, as the food was freshly prepared and of a very high quality. Breakfast was faultless - hot food (which some hotels struggle to do), served onto hot plates, and excellent service. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the racecourse

This hotel is just outside the city centre and backs on the race course. As all Marriotts easy check in and pleasant reception area. Our room was small and felt slightly dated. Breakfast was fine. The bar area was very very busy each night due to the races and weddings and tables were left with a build up of dirty glasses. We ate in the restaurant on the first night, food very mediocre but very pricey.
All in all very very over priced for the experience, including the drinks. I wont be returning to this hotel.
