My wife and I went for a short break in York in the hight of the very hot summer. Excellent service from pleasant staff. The room was upgraded to a king-size bed and the en-suite room on the first floor was well appointed and comfortable apart from the air-con system which seemed unable to cope with the high temperatures. Membership of the spa and pool were included and I took full advantage of this. Full breakfasts also included, self service and very nice. A great place to base yourself when visiting York. The city centre is within walking distance ( a fairly long walk admittedly). Nice grounds surround the hotel and it overlooks York Racecourse.

We stayed here 26/7 - 28/7 during York races, one of the busiest times of the year for the hotel. What first struck me whilst checking in was the absolutely fantastic service being provided. The staff were ALL amazing. Very very friendly and always smiling and greeting you when you pass them. This included the maids and ground staff too.

It is not often I feel I get outstanding customer service but the staff there are the friendliest and most efficient I have ever seen.

We travel a lot and I have never posted a Tripadvisor review for any hotel, ever.

The service received here was certainly worthy of a mention.

Keep up the good work guys!!

Great rooms and grounds too!!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Race course with balconies are amazing!

Our experience of Marriott hotels is of good quality properties with pleasant staff and good amenities and the York Marriott didn't disappoint. We had a huge room on 1st floor overlooking the back garden and looking out over the racecourse. The room was spotlessly clean with two double beds which was great for a family of 3. Leisure facilities were good and breakfast was fine with reasonable choice. Free wifi in public areas only which is a bit disappointing which is the only real negative.
The location out with the town centre was not a problem with regular bus service with stop right outside hotel. Tip for bus is to buy a group of 4 day rider for £7.40 all in. Great value if you are all travelling together.

Room Tip: Room overlooking garden and racecourse

Room was spacious and clean with all the modern facilities. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was self service, plentiful with a good selection of food and drinks. The evening meal was slightly disappointing in that whilst the quality was good, many of the portions were very small and clearly made to a strict budget. Service in the evening was generally good if slightly rushed and why coffee is served to you before you have had your sweet is a total mystery
The swimming pool is very small and not suitable for more than three people at a time.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear of the hotel overlook the wonderful York racecourse. The hotel is quite large and...

just spent 5 nights here, room was a good walk away from reception but very clean and quiet. internet was very expensive in the room but worked well in the bar. could have done with more bar staff as there where many coach parties all drinking and dining at the same time. no we didnt know why. food was good but little choice on our package. breakfast was excellent and hot. the local bus stops at the door and was great to use to get back from York.(with our bus passes). drinks were extremely expensive. the pool was small and got very full but the gym was cool and had all the equipment i needed. with free towels and lockable lockers. the garden was pretty with a good view of the race track, even had the occasional bunnies and squirrels playing around. yes i'd love to go again if there was a good deal, great staff and so much to see in York

Room Tip: i can only say our room on the first floor was super, it faced a huge oak tree and shrubs with the r...

To all who are used to the Marriot experience worldwide, sorry but you will be bitterly disappointed. The rooms are tatty and not very clean, my room even had dirty T shirts left by a previous guest! Also don't be fooled by the clever photo of the pool, it's tiny and SPA is not a word I would use.

I don't blame the Marriot, as such, as this is a symptom of the malaise that is currently affecting English 4 Star hotels. However, I am now making it my mission to find a decent one (belonging to a chain) and am looking forward to giving you all a positive review.

Watch this space.

Everyone was helpful and friendly, as I work in customer service this is an essential component for me! Lovely hotel great terrace and garden area overlooking racecourse, Pool area etc. small but wasnt crowded and pleasant sunbed area to relax. Treatment area small but staff were pleasant and professional. had lunch, dinner and buffet style breakfast all were lovely....my friend did have to wait for her requested poached egg but minor point...plenty of choice.....All in all a lovely relaxing stay in nice surroundings with pleasant staff.....would recommend and will return and consider Marriott in other areas too.
