York Marriott Hotel

The Marriott Hotel on Tadcaster Road at York is well situated for spending time in this fine City. Parking space is plentiful with disabled parking near the front door. Extra parking is at the side and rear of the hotel. The Reception is off the main entrance as are other facilities. Booking in was quick and easy (order your daily paper at this time). Once allocated your room – off you go – with assistance if required. There are rooms upstairs as well as one downstairs. The lift unfortunately is at the far end of the long corridor – so stairs it was for us. Lovely room – well equipped with all you need and expect. We used the meeting rooms, the bar and the restaurant – all of which were excellent. The menu is great and the food is really good. One thing I can say is that the Fire Alarm does work and does wake you – no fire but accidental - even at 11.30pm. A brilliant view of the adjoining racecourse and just the place to stay if you are going to the races.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor.

We spent 2 nights here whilst doing a short sightseeing trip in York. Pleasant, clean rooms with most facilities and comfortable large beds.. Lack of free Wi-Fi in the rooms was surprising. There was an extra charge for plug in connection in the room or you could sit in the lobby to access wi-fi No facecloths in the bathroom and towels were quite thin and worn. The whole building and décor needs some updating. The staff and service were excellent. The hotel was in well kept grounds and a quiet restful area. On -site parking was provided and it was a short bus trip or taxi ride to York city centre. First class breakfast with choice of buffet or prepared by chef.

Check in was good but we were not shown to our room just given directions. The room was ok. Bit tired. Could do with an update but ok. The bathroom had clean towels, complimentary shower gel, shampoo and foam bath. The room had tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel pool in the hotel is nice with Jacuzzi, steam room, hot tub and sauna. We had a lovely afternoon relaxing.
The breakfast choice was fab. Cereal, toast lots of preserves, full cooked breakfast and fruit. Good choice. Serve yourself and eat as much as you like. The service is poor for tea and coffee though. We had to ask for it and still no one brought it. My partner had to ask quite sternly to get some. There are plenty of staff in the restaurant but instead of being allocated jobs, everyone seems to try do everything hence things getting missed which is a shame as the food is very good.
Upon check out, we were not asked if we'd had a nice stay nor if everything had been ok for us. I was disappointed by the receptionist upon check out. The hotel is about 2 miles outside of York. We used the number 4 bus service as parking is very expensive. But York is fabulous.
We are returning to York but are staying in the city center this time as its more convenient but I would stay here again.

Staff at the hotel made our stay very good, food excellent and our rooms very good, breakfast in the morning all you can eat and help yourself and was of a good quality, we would recommend staying here again to any one..

Once again we stayed at a nice hotel, but there were too many confusing hallways and the elevators were spaced towards the back of the hotel. The room was clean and big with comfortable beds. The grounds were beautiful and the location was perfect. We would stay again now we know the hallways :-)

This hotel is a very good base from which to explore the wonderful city of York - if a little far out of the city centre - It is well connected with bus routes...

The racecourse-facing bar terrace is very pleasant - Beer choice is a little limited however...

Staff are both efficient and friendly - we got an upgrade to a suite (being a gold elite member is always good at a Marriott)

The buffet breakfast was varied and plentiful

will return again
