We stayed at this hotel on 16 & 17th december 2013 . Payed for room in full upfront via a 3rd party site. When we arrived we opened the option of charging drinks etc to the room and was told it would be £50 per night . I authourised via chip and pin a one off £100 payment and anything not used would be refunded. This was fine and have done this before at other hotels . We checked our bank a few days later only to find the hotel had taken 2 extra payments of £50 when we werent even there . They said it was a mistake and it would be refunded . 27th december and still waiting .would suggest anyone charging drinks would check there bank accounts carefully to make sure this isnt happening all too often . The excuse was as we booked and payed in full through a 3rd party site they made a mistake and charged us for an extra nights accommodation. .if this was the case we would have been charged £89 not 2 off payments of £50 . Something hookey about it bit how do you get to the bottom of it ?

Having read some of the recent reviews of this hotel I was almost put off booking but we wanted to be close to our family who live two minutes away with a full house over Christmas.
How pleased I am that I did book!! The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and comfortable, king size bed with a view over the park and York Minster in the distance. The air con was noisy but reception tools us how to turn it off, so it was never a problem.
The buffet breakfast is excellent with a good choice of breads, hot and cold food; the cooked breakfast is fresh and a chef will cook eggs and omelettes to order.
I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

Stayed here in the past and I cannot recommend the hotel enough, from helpful staff to clean and excellent menus, the city York had some beautiful building and the town centre had a nice atmosphere. I stayed 2 days at his hotel and I would loved to have stayed longer, the hotel also has a fantastic gym facility which had all modern equipment, I have stayed at other hotels in the past and I really like the experience when trying at he Marriott, the room had. The hotel room had a small fridge which had a selection of drinks and snack that would Appel to everyone, the hotel had open windows which had nice views

An ok hotel. A bit on the tired side. Could do with a bit of a re-vamp.
The layout was complex as it looked to me as if it had been over extended in the 90's.
The bed was comical...we had to hold on to the sides of the mattress to stop ourselves rolling in to the middle!
The staff were ok, if a bit jaded (lazy). Maybe something to do with the run up to Christmas.
The air-con in the room sounded like we were sleeping next to a tube station.
In summary, I have stayed at better Marriotts - they need to up their game at this one

Stayed with Irish for one night, make him surprise. he has visiting in York first time. Enjoyed and walked in York.
Our room was large and warm. The double bed was comfortable and good sleep. But the wall was some damage, get it sorted with the wall. There was everything - small fridge, safe box, hair-dryer, iron, ironing broad, selection of coffee and tea, biscuits, sitting sofa, table ect. BUT HASN'T SLIPPERS !!!
The location was great but walk to City about 20 mins.
The breakfast is very expensive and main dishes too.
Spent some time in the spa, there is a pool, small sauna and steam, whirlpool. Relaxed.

Booked for my mothers birthday for the family after we attended a wedding earlier in the year, great value at £15 for 3 courses, no waiting about, great setting affording tremendous views across York racecourse, great selection of meats on main course and fantastic desserts, the thing everyone in our group commented on was the fact that we didn't feel like we had to leave the table after our meal, we sat for a good 2 hours after the desserts chatting and enjoying the atmosphere, sadly we did feel the drinks were a little expensive but on the other hand, your not sat in a Toby carvery! All in all a great afternoon, highly reccomended.

Stayed for one night, reception staff were very helpful and polite. A large well proportioned room with king sized comfortable bed. Breakfast is self service basis.
Just a really nice place to stay with a bit of added luxury.
