The Marriot might cost you a few pounds more but it will be worth it.
Great rooms, great restaurant and very friendly staff,
Ideal position for exploring the City or visiting the University.

We stayed at the York Marriott for one night to relax and chill out before a busy week. The hotel is lovely, easy to find and on the main road into York. We were driving, but i think the bus into York stops right outside the hotel and i'm sure it can't take more than a few minutes to get into the centre.
The room was really comfortable nd bathroom was massive. The leisure centre was also great with a lovely pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi (and gym but i didn't try that!).
Breakfast was expensive (but typical price for this type of hotel), but the food was good - not greasy like most places.
Highly reccomend the hotel for business or leisure.

My husband and I along with our son who is 8 stayed at the Marriott for 3 nights. The room we were given was very spacious with 2 double beds, perfect for the three of us. It looked like it had not been used in a while as it could have done with a dusting, but that didn't take away from the fact it was in a great position with lots of trees outside our window. During the first night we experienced a noise in the room rather like a door buzzer, this was every 30 mins, rather annoying but guessed it was something to do with the air conditioning. I have to say I was expecting a battle with reception either to be moved or to get the problem fixed. The lady at reception had picked up the phone to maintenance before I had finished talking and the problem was being looked at. I was very impressed with her attention. The very nice maintenance man changed the pump in the air conditioning within 30 minutes of our complaint. Not bad! Everything else was lovely, the breakfast, the pool. You have to remember that this is an old building extended to suit being a hotel! Personally I would use this hotel again no problem. ( for those who want a good size room we were in room 158!!). The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of York, great when you need to walk off a huge breakfast. A taxi cost around £5 each way.

Reception, Bar and Dining area were very good. Our standard double room was in the original building and was disappointing for a Marriott Hotel and desperately needs upgrading. I assume the rooms in the extension are of a higher standard. The hotel is excellently positioned for the racecourse.

My husband and stayed at the York Marriot for our wedding anniversary. It is a beautiful hotel with friendly and helpful staff. We had booked online and, being cheeky, requested a free upgrade due to it being a special occasion. They kindly obliged and as a result we were given one of the Grandstand Penthouse rooms - stunning!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the York Marriot and would recommend it.

Tried to book on phone as they had lots of availabilty called at hotel to check in to see room. Told on reception they were fully booked. Called the number from the car outside to be told they had 5 rooms available. Apparently they can have availabilty come and go in minutes. Awful system extremely frustrating for customers - makes you wonder how good the other systems are at the hotel.

Stayed here for three nights on a three nights for the price of two deal which was great value. Food was expensive at the bar but good and breakfast had a great choice.
We had connecting rooms that worked well for our family, they were clean and contempory. The pool had a steam and sauna room and a gym. Pool was not big but enough for us with Jacuzzi. They also had an outdoor tennis court which in need of a little renovation was good enough to play on.
Location was good for York and the surrounding sights; we went to the Castle museum, Castle Howard and Harrogate all great.
