“The Perfect Break!”
Reviewed 11 December 2009

Stayed at this Hotel on the 4th December for 2 nights as a treat for my Girlfriends Birthday, I had requested an upgrade and was told its not a given but they will see what they can do.

Arrived at the hotel and check in was easy very friendly staff making us feel welcome and Important.

We got to our room and was delighted to have a great room with a balcony and great views looking out onto the racecourse!

We enjoyed dinner in the Bar and Restaurant which was supurb the hotel should be 5 star the pool and jacuzzi was amazing and the hotel was just luxury.

Best Hotel in York.

We stayed here hoping to discover York whilst staying at a good Hotel over a weekend. Unfortunately however, I must admit that this is the worst Marriott Hotel that I have stayed at. We did read mixed reviews before we booked and assumed that it cannot be that bad. It is! For the price that you pay you are better staying in an ibis or a travelodge! The rooms are old, tired and dated and the entire hotel needs an 'umph'! The staff are more than happy to helo however you kind of realise that they must do this all the time and everyday. Apologies after apologies however no improvements! My main concerns were the filthy rooms (believe it or not but even their cups had stains on them and obviously had not been washed properly), The drama around checking in and the rooms just not being available at the right time. We were made to wait at least 45 minutes before we got the keys to our room and personally think that this is unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. They are most probably under staffed hence why there was only 1 person at reception!
The good points were the location, not too far from the city centre however not too close either. You can park for free at the hotel and then catch a bus into the city centre which takes about 4 minutes. Overall a pleasant stay in York however will choose the hotel more carefully!

My partner and I booked a standard double room and were delighted when we booked in to find our room was large and with 2 double beds in it. Bathroom was also a good size and the room was very clean. The windows also opened and air con was really efficient.

The hotel is set in large, beautifully landscaped gardens with a beauiful patio which over looks the Grandstand of York Racecourse. The hotel is very modern and all furnishings are chic.

The hotel is about a mile and a half outside the walls but we knew that and wanted the walk so that we had peace and quiet after busy days instead of being in the heart of the city. If you want to get the bus, the stop is right outside the hotel and is very reasonable. The walk into the centre was just a straight road and took no more than 15mins. The weather was beautiful whilst we were there so it was a great walk in and a good way to walk off dinner (and wine) on the way home.

Lots of great things to do in this fabulous city.

Walk round the city walls which are elevated above the streets and see some of the most spectacular views of Yorkminster.

Take one of the boat trips which last around 45mins and you can enjoy a drink whilst the guide talks you through some of the cities attractions.

Have dinner at "The Living Room" and enjoy beautiful views from the New York Loft style restaurant over Ouse Bridge and the waterfront.

Overall I would recommend York to all.

Stayed here in August 2009. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. check in atrocious - says check in available form 2pm, by half 5 we were still waiting with s small baby! we were finally given our keys to our room - it was filthy and not cleaned from previous occupiers who left the bathroom in a terrible state. they then gave us keys to another room that was so small we could not even get the buggy through the door, never mind find a place for our travel cot.

Everybody was complaining about housekeeping - one couple still had not had their rooms cleaned at half 6 at night!!!

We had lunch in the hotel and cleaned up after ourselves with baby wipes. Everything we had left was still there at tea time!!

wuold not return and neither would everyone else staying there then!!!

We were married at the York Marriott on October 3rd this year, and everything was perfect!! The girls stayed on the Friday night, (aged from 25-75!) and we had a super evening. The rooms were spotless and comfortable and really set us up for the day ahead. Yes there was a queue for breakfast, but we had been warned of this beforehand, and the array of food was well worth the wait.
Our wedding, reception and evening party were all held in the hotel and simply could not be faulted. The food was superb and the staff exceptional, all contributing to making our day so very special.
Everyone who stayed after the party was delighted with the hotel and the success of our event. We're all still talking about it now!

We stayed at the marriott york hotel wed 28th october for 1 night. We must have missed the alarm saga and feel sorry for those guests who had this happen to them. We had a pleasant experience at this hotel. We arrived at 6pm, check in was quick and staff very welcoming. We had a family room which was clean. We had the sofa bed already made up, the sheet did have a small rip in it but was very clean and white. Had to ask for conditioner and had it brought to our room within 5 minutes. Did not hear any noise from other rooms. The pool was small but good fun. The hot tub was lovely and did not want to leave it. Steam room and sauna were great too. Breakfast was very nice and had alot of choice, did go early as had read about it getting busy and at reception had a notice about avoiding certain time. Check out was very quick and staff again very pleasant. I would stay here again in the future. One point I would recommend is a taxi to or from the train station before the bus, as we did both and the bus was only a fraction cheaper.

We stayed at the Marriot York Hotel on half term and entered the charming looking hotel. When we walked in we were greeted with an enjoyable welcome of a 45 minute queue awaiting us to check in. We then went through the hotel to our room. When we got in to our GUARANTEED two doubles room when we found one queen sized bed. We then went to a member of hotel staff to see a fold up camp bed. The porter who was lugging the bed into the room then bought the bed in without putting the sheets on the bed. Then ten minutes later the porter then came again and required help putting the sheets on the bed and left the duvet bare. Then we went to the swimming pool which was small but had a sauna and steam room. Then we went to the downstairs bar which ran out of J20 Orange and passion fruit and a fire alarm caused by someones hairspray went off making the whole hotel evacuate the building. Then we went to the restaraunt which was nice. Then we went back to our room with a terrible TV reception and another fire alarm went off. Went to breakfast downstairs and another fire alarm to go off but the food was alright.
