Went here as we had seen the good reviews. Sat there for about 5 - 10 minutes before we asked if it was waitress or counter service - replied counter despite confusion of a menu on table and that two staff were chatting at counter and could see us sat there.

Food was expensive given quality ( hard baked beans) and other places we have been to in York. The mugs had brown stains in them and the tomato ketchup was in a Heinz bottle but was a very watered down cheap version. Don't mind it not being Heinz but passing it off as Heinz just added to our poor experience, there was no soap to wash your hands either so wouldn't be returning.

We came across Jacks Coffee by accident but we were so glad we did. The coffee with scones was lovely. The staff were so pleasant especially when I asked if I could buy one of their mugs - the waitress was a bit taken aback but they did sell me a mug (at a very reasonable price). The only down side was that the only spare table was right at the door and it was a tad cold when customers were going in/out but that couldnt be helped - it was November! I would recommend this wee cafe, the atmosphere was great, the service was good and the staff couldnt have been more helpful.

We visited York and had stayed in the nearby Travelodge and had stopped for Breakfast at Jacks Coffee Shop (Just a short walk from Cliffords Tower). Lovely breakfast with a nice pot of tea and the kids loved the Orange juice. We all enjoyed the food and we did not feel hungry until tea time that day. Lady serving was helpful and friendly and chatted to the kids about where they had been and where we wanted to go. We chatted about our day out at Flamingo Land the day before and the kids commented how nice the lady was after we left. Nice cafe with friendly staff. The only thing I could say to improve is maybe some new tables and chairs would make this place even nicer and your visit a little more comfortable to reflect the price.

we only popped in for a cuppa and in that time, i can only presume the lad with curly hair is the owners son, came in from the rain went behind the counter shook his hair over his mother who was standing in front of the coffee machine, (nice) all whilst barefoot, he then proceded to make himself a drink, guess is was hot chocolate because he squirted cream on top then proceded to squirt the cream into his mouth and return the unwashed nozzle to the fridge. after licking the teaspoon for 5mins walking barefoot into the kitchen area he the wiped it on a teacloth and put it back in with the rest ready for the next customer. as to the free refil we didnt bother.
