Possibly the best collection of engines in the world! Free entry too! From the earliest to the latest this place covers everything. Do not miss the 'Great Gathering' you may not get another chance in your lifetime!

Seeing all the families with preschool children milling around the huge engines exuberantly reminded me of the first time I visited the museum as a young child. To get up close to the enormous, immaculately painted locomotives and carriages was a real thrill.

25 years on and the museum offers something different; a chance to learn more about the engineering and design history of the railways (although it's still a little bit exciting). This is a fascinating topic and affects everyone in one way or another.

There should be something here for everyone; kids, train-spotting nerds and people who just want to learn. You can't complain about the price either. I left a £5 donation, which in hindsight is about half what the visit was worth.

Everyone of all ages will enjoy a visit to the Railway Museum. There is a huge range of things to see, from the royal carriages to the Bullet train. The ride on mini train is a favourite of ours.
