Very interesting for young and old, even if you have no real interest in trains. Certainly a great place for a wet day.

We absolutely loved this, looking at trains back in time and from our youth! A must for any rail enthusiast. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to go back. Will bring the grandchildren next time.

The railway museum has something for everyone. Great exhibits and lots of space. The grandchildren loved the ride on the miniature train. Overall a must do and the best part is it's free.

If you are still fascinated by the age of steam then this is a place you just must visit. Easy to find and can be combined with further enthralling sites to see in York

The really good things about this museum - it's free, it's big and it's family friendly. The disappointing things were the lack of a 'theme layout' for adults - eg the Rocket replica is next to diesel locomotives rather than any sense of history of railways - the focus on the north east (in a national museum), and the poor service and appearance in the cafes (no paper napkins at all, filthy floors in the 'dining car').
