On arrival you are stopped inside the door and explained to, that although the museum is free would we like to make a small donation towards the upkeep (donation minimum is £3.00). Yes you dont have to donate but i found it very uncomfortable being asked with a queue waiting and watching behind you....good tactics me thinks!!! Anyway, gripe over the museum is excellent with lots of trains from many years ago and a very good day out indeed.Well worth a visit while in York.

This is a brilliant collection of train engins and coaches and it is totally free! You may make a donation towards upkeep but if you do they will give you a free book! Very enjoyable.
