Outstanding museum with involving and fascinating displays. Some areas have so many exhibits as to almost overwhelm. A huge resource for anyone interested in trains from around the world and memorabilia. We spent an afternoon and did not manage it all - by a long way. Good cafeteria service and nice shop with massive selection of goods.

A 10 minute walk from the train station. Plenty to see.
Entry is free, however they do ask for a charitable donation of £3.00, which is very reasonable.

Very accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs alike.

Excellent display of old and modern trains, from the Mallard to the Japanese "Bullet train".
There is also a working turntable, interactive displays and railway memorabilia.

A good display of train carriages in the main hall, from Victorian time travel to a 60's mail train.
There is also a tea room on the platform serving teas and cakes.

There is a engineers work shed outside which houses Stephenson's "Rocket".A miniature train ride for all and a kids play area are outside.

There is also a train ride back to the Minster, all for a nominal fee.

Well worth the visit, even if you're not a train enthusiast!

We thought this might be a bit anoraky but how wrong we were. It was very interesting and the exhibits breath-taking. The railway theme coffee shop was superb.
It is free but does ask for donations and having spent more than a good few hours here it was well worth donating for
Definitely worth a visit.
