For non train enthusiasts we spent a few hours here . The exhibits and information given is excellent. Staff knowledgeable and cafe and food really good value.
Free entry but donate in order for them to continue the upkeep and the admission charge as zero.
Well worth visiting.

Thank Iain M

Excellent day out walking through the history of trains, train journeys and railway history from across the UK and beyond. Interesting displays of model trains and general rail paraphernalia. Anyone over a certain age will recall many of the displays, machines, carriages and signs. They have some wonderful Royal carriages and even a bullet train carriage which you can sit inside. While we where there they were setting up for a function. What a location for a function surrounded by the platforms and Royal carriages along with old style buffet bars. The Flying Scotsman display of course is tremendous. Great day out.

I’m not into trains so wouldn’t have paid to go but as this was free we thought we’d give it a go whilst in York for a couple of nights. It was quite interesting. The interiors of the trains can be seen through the windows and it was nice to see how Queen Victoria and other Royals travelled. There is a couple of nice restaurants (from what I saw, although didn’t sample). All in all worth a visit and an absolute must if you like trains.

Thank Sarah C
