“What a lovely surprise”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Lovely 18th century preserved house with furniture from the Terry chocolate family, each room told a story and a guide in every room really brought the experience of living in those days to life. Loved the display of clothes and shoes as well.

“Fairfax House, York”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

A beautiful example of a classical 18th century Georgian house. Each area has a docent with information about the rooms, furnishings, paintings, and the time period.

“Fantastic historical house”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Great visit. The guides in each room share their knowledge with you. Interesting history of the house when Lord Fairfax owned it, but also afterwards and how it was restored again. Recommended.

“Room guides were fantastic!”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

Walking around Fairfax house provided a wonderful insight into fine Georgian living! The furniture and paintings on display are really interesting. The enthusiasm and knowledge of the room guides is what makes Fairfax House a five star museum though. The facts and stories they told really bought the exhibits to life, and questions were welcomed.

Admission is £5 for students, which includes readmission for a year. There is a pay and display car park between Fairfax House and Clifford's Tower.

This is a brilliant display of Georgian history of the upper classes. Well worth seeing with any timely displays, and a number of activities to engage in. easy to imagine being in the time period.
