Situated in the centre of York just behind the Minster, this was a first class house to visit. All that was in the house was left exactly as when it was handed over to the NT, which made it particularly authentic. Don't miss the ghost trip to the cellar!

We really enjoyed our visit here. The best part of the house by far was the guided tour of the cellar, which focuses on the story of Harry Martindale who witnessed the ghosts of Roman soldiers marching through the cellar, credit given to David Holt who was a brilliant storyteller and really made the visit worthwhile. We felt the pricing of the house could do with review- the tickets were £7 each for the house, additional £3 for the cellar tour, we thought this should have been the other way around. The guides in each room enhance the experience however we thought they were a bit overbearing at times and at points we felt obliged to stay in each room longer than we wanted to! Overall one of the better things to do in York, a worthwhile trip.

This house has a lovely garden set just outside the minster and included a treasure hunt through the rooms to keep your kids entertained whilst you get to look around.
Free entry with your NT card.
