This house had been changed around inwardly many times by one such owner Edward Green and led to interesting reasons as to why! There were old stained glass windows in the magnificant hall along with the rather plain fireplace as the original had been moved to another room. It's now owned by the National Trust but well worth the concession entrance fee of £7 and closed on Fridays.

As National Trust members this was free entry for us. The staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. It is quite easy to spend a couple of hours in the house and beautiful gardens, finishing off in the delightful tea room, to be found in the basement. Although there were quite a number of people visiting the rooms did not feel crowded. There were children following a "house" trail and it was clear to see that all the staff welcomed them and enjoyed showing where the answers could be found. Dressing up clothes are also available for the children. Definitely to be recommended.

We were visiting York so added a quick visit to this property as we are National Trust members., Very interesting with a good history although the owner liked to change things so not sure how much is actually original. Able to see rooms in which King Edward VII and Queen Alexander stayed just before he became King. Typically, the owner then refurbished the rooms after they had stayed.

Worth a quick visit if you are in York and are National Trust members.

As NT members, we expected to quickly pop in to the Treasurer's House. We ended up spending around 2-3 hours here, largely as a result of the friendly staff who were very welcoming and willing to tell us their stories. Lots of interesting items to see, and spacious rooms. We hung around for the tour of the cellar. I have to confess, I thought this was the most ridiculous non-event I've experience at NT. After waiting, we were given hard hats for safety and then ushered through a door to the cellar. This turned out to be a very short walk, at which point we gathered to hear about a Roman plinth which we all stared at. An even shorter walk took us to another area where we assembled looking at a wall while someone told us a story about something that was clearly the result of a wild imagination. During this time we also looked at an apparently excavated old Roman road, after which we were told was not the road at all, but some rubble that had been loaded on to cover the road! Then we took the short walk back to the house and handed back our hats! Bizarre. Although it may appear to some, with hind sight I would not have waited for this tour. But apart from the tour, the house is definitely worth a visit if you are in York, and it's more interesting than the title ("Treasurers House") may seem.

Special mention to Claire who did our ghost talk today, a must for all visitors. Spent about an hour in all, rest of the house is interesting a dress up room fun for child and adults alike!
