overall a nice experience, laughed at the 60"s part an the old programmed and kitchens etc of that era, the museum was built on an old women prison so was able to experience the prison cells which was really good, wont spoil your experience by telling you all about it but well worth a visit, staff are friendly and welcoming which is a bonus and all over the museum if you want to ask questions

This is a big museum considering the focus is principally the relatively recent history of York (from about 1600 onward if you are interested in BC or viking eera, there are two other museums dedicated to these topics). I loved the donated clothes and items form the recent history. Things from my lifetime. The recreated street is lovely and like something out of Harry Potter - very like Diagon Alley. I also liked the information on the civil war and the ghoulish preserved cell in which Dick Turpin spent his last hours. A really worthwile experience

Had an excellent time here. Superb value for money. Excellent staff who explain parts of history to you, answer any questions you have and are very knowledgeable. I liked that the museum forces you to follow a route meaning you can't miss anything. The Victorian street was fantastic and also the trenches were nicely done. I went to the National History Museum of Scotland later on in my trip and it was nowhere near as good as the York Castle Museum, would go again.

We went there on our last day and regretted it a bit as there was so much to see and read, we needed more time. Loved the replica Victorian street, we thought this was done very well. I also found following the stories of 4 local people through World War One a great way showing how it affected every day people. Would go again if in York.

Easily spend a full day at this beautiful museum. Would advise that you do the tours on offer free of charge through the Victorian street. So very interesting
