Owner description: Shambles (or The Shambles as it is often referred to) is a street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. Dating Back to Medieval times it was once the street of the Butcher Shops. Today the Shambles is Europe's most visited street, attracting tourist, shoppers and business clients.

The Shambles is about one block long, and it is mostly touristy type shops. beware, everything in York closes at 5PM! Worth it to see how the houses were built and how small it is, but don't go expecting to spend a lot of time shopping!

This lovely street was a step back into the victorian era with lovely little shops and boutiques to buy gifts or souvineers of your trip.My grandson loved the idea of the cat trail, looking for cat statues.

a lovely place to visit but don't shop there as it is way over priced we found a ring for sale there which we had seen elsewhere for £40 there it was £80 and we went to a bakery for a pie and it was tasteless and again overpriced. So look but don't touch!

Start at the top and walk down stopping to look in all of the shops but going into some of them eg the butchers at the top for sausages and a pie. There is a variety of shops - gifts, clothing, novelties, clothing, sweets, food and drink and leather goods. A shop near the top sells postcards at 5 for £1. Very good. At the top also you can duck in and out of the market via a couple of quaint narrow alleys. The buildings are so quaint and oddly bent and deformed that they are a marvel.
