Owner description: Shambles (or The Shambles as it is often referred to) is a street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. Dating Back to Medieval times it was once the street of the Butcher Shops. Today the Shambles is Europe's most visited street, attracting tourist, shoppers and business clients.

You simply have to spend time in York if you want to see England at its best. The Shambles is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of shopping. You can literally spend days checking out all the great shops. I'll go back for sure.

We walked along the street admiring the architecture and enjoying the shopping. We were able to purchase everything on our to buy list and also bought some delicious fudge and had hot chocolate in a local teahouse.

I went for a day with 3 friends, the shambles is really oldie world, you feel as if you have gone back in time, I found the shops to be very expensive and bought nothing to take home, though my friends did, very crowded as the pavement is not very wide at all, we went for a meal in the old pub in the road and the meal was lovely, could not fault it and not expensive, though we did not know it was a pub until my friend went in to buy something and saw the room in the back and asked if they served meals which they did, all in all a nice day out and we also went in the other shops and market, a lot of walking and not many places to sit down, so we were worn out but happy at the end of the day

The individual shops are such a delight. The 2/3 we were in were very friendly. Can't remember the name of the Pie Shop but the pork pies were out of this world. First time grandchildren have been and they loved it too
