OK pub food. Nothing great nothing to complain about. Just standard pub food at the top of the price range an average pub

“Nice pub”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

We had the pies on our visit to this pub, as it was a cold and wet day. It was a lovely winter meal. They have a good selection of cask ales to sample as well

“Christmas Day Dinner OMG lol where do we start”
Reviewed 26 December 2013

We waited for 2 and a half hour for our Christmas Day dinner!! At first it was funny. The starters were nice but the prawn cocktail came without bread and butter which took another 25 mins to bring. The poor waiters were stressed and kept excusing us with and major problem in the kitchen. At this point the pub should have been closed, money refunded or at least a complimentary bottle of wine. After two and a half hours wait the sprouts were still frozen, really, truly frozen. Had to send the dinner back and it was obviously microwaved so the dinner was scolding, Yorkshire pud soggy and he little bundle of Turkey wrapped in bacon like a bullet.

Unorganised chaos I'm afraid to say as it as lovely pub but clearly (as a licensee myself) needs to be closed Christmas Day. It was so bad it was hilarious and so didn't spoil our Christmas Day. I would be interested to know what the major problem in the kitchen was.

Ps the plates were nice

“Good pub food”
Reviewed 4 December 2013

Went here for a pub lunch on our last day in York as it was close to the Minster and looked nice! Staff were friendly and helpful and atmosphere was quite nice as all the christmas decorations were up. Food took quite a while to come which made us slightly nervous as we had a lot of jobs to do and were at the mercy of the expensive car park, but it was alright in the end, as food was quite tasty and easy to get through! Would recommend if you are looking for a nice, proper pub lunch in the city.

The lunch menu was good and varied. The pub was clean, the service was good, the food was good, decent sized portions at a decent price.
