“Nice and Handy”
Reviewed 26 May 2008

Just came back from 2 night stay. After parking the car in the car park which has cameras and locked gates at night we checked in.The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were shown our room that was in the annexe part of the hotel outside the room is a lovely suntrap courtyard with plenty of seats and canopies we sat out there on saturday afternoon with a drink from the bar that is open from 11 till 11.Room was big and had a big shower with toilet and basin clean and tidy.Furniture is a little dated but workable.Bed was comfy and we got clean towels the next day.Walk into town is a pleasant 15 minute stroll.this hotel is suitable for disabled as it has ramps front and back.Nice breakfast both mornings.Would visit again and you MUST go to the dungeons if its your 1st time in lovely YORK

Surprisingly nice hotel, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. An unprepossessing exterior, inside is clean and old fashioned. A nice courtyard is ideal for a drink in the sun, and my single room was spotless. Service was friendly and I liked the bar. I was there at a very quiet time, but I can highly recommend it (if you don't mind the 5 to 10 minute walk in to town, but you can stop at the river and feed the ducks).

This hotel was good value for what we paid. Special mention for the breakfast, it was delicious and lots of it. The staff are friendly and helpful. The weather was awful and the room was warm and cosy. The only small criticisms are that the room was a bit dated and had a musty smell when the windows were closed. I would recomend the hotel to anyone wanting a convenient sightseeing location close to York city centre (with parking)and a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.

We spent three nights at the hotel at the beginning of August. The room was clean, inviting and amply big enough for four. The shower was enormous..
All the staff were welcoming and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
The breakfast was superb. Well done to the owner and staff for making our stay such a happy one. We would definitely recomend the hotel to friends and family.

we got a room in the annexe building on the top floor, room was dated but ive got to say it was spotless clean i have issues with hygiene, cant stand grub and grime,we had plenty of tea and coffee facilities, they refilled them everyday, and the maid comes in everyday.the problem for us we were facing a main road,it is a very busy road, and when we opened the window it was really noisey just like a motorway we couldnt believe it,and its like that through the night,we couldnt hear our tv with it open.when we shut the window then it was ok,it was warm due to it being august.breakfast was lovelly, juice cereal, and a full english breakfast, toast if you wanted more just ask, they give it to you no problem, also a carpark to use around the back,

Just back from a great weekend at the Heworth Court Hotel. We were booked on the Lamplight Break, which was 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast. We had one of the superior rooms, which had the most fantastic rolltop bath and excellent large shower (big enough for two if you like!) The only slight niggle was that the room was very hot, but then again it was January and could have been extremely cold, so that would have been a plus point too! We just turned the radiator off and opened the windows....as reading previous reviews, it is only common sense! All the staff were very smart, polite and extremely friendly, a real family run hotel. The food was fantastic with a great choice and the sweets are to die for...they really are a work of art! The Whisky Bar is great and the wine list is excellent and very informative for anyone who doesn't know their wine. I know we were not alone in taking the names of a number of wines to search for when home! The hotel is perfectly situated for all of Yorks attractions, just far enough away from the buzz. We hope to return again soon and thanks to the Smith family and staff for making it such an enjoyable weekend for my big 40! Good luck to Martin for his next challenge, the Paris marathon.

Sunday 28th January 07 was my 60th birthday, my wife booked us into the heworth court for the weekend 26/29th Jan. The staff were excellent, rooms clean and tidy with ample room for a couple. The lamplight restaurant has a great reputation locally but the banquet menu is superb. Value for money it is the best food i have ever eaten, the presentation was superb with attention to all the finer details, to make the meal special were first class. I even got a card from all the staff. But dont take my word for it, check it out let the hotel send you there information but ask for them to enclose their banquet menu details as well.
