We stayed from Saturday til Monday. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a room overlooking the courtyard which was lovely for a quiet drink before or after our excellent dinner. Our breakfast was lovely and it was freshly cooked. I would recommend this little "home from home" hotel to everyone. It is a fair walk to York Minster but only a £5 taxi drive. Thank you for a perfect stay .

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the courtyard

Somehow this little place reminded me of Fawlty Towers. No sign of the owner, sadly. He was, we suspect, frantically strangling the staff in the kitchen. There is omething quintessentially English about toby-mugs and fake wooden beams, a tiny bar with wine on draft, the smell of cheap cleaning products, ill-fitting windows and lino in the toilets.

The staff were wonderfully friendly and the food was passable. The decor and the atmosphere is pure seaside B&B but with aspirations to something with more ... what is it Basil? ... more class!

The breakfast was excellent and the beds were comfortable.

My husband and I loved every minute. We arrived a little late in the evening after all food places were closed and the nice gentleman at the check-in gave us extra cookies to snack on. The breakfast in the morning was DELICIOUS!! The woman at the front in the morning was so nice. Even after we checked out, she allowed us to remain parked while we toured the city so we didn't have to worry about finding and paying for parking. They are literally a 10 min walk from the city center. The woman mending to the grass in the morning is fantastic. She does such a great job to keep the outside looking nice. The only downside was our toilet wasn't flushing but that was fine as there was a main one inside the main building. Honestly, this was a downside but really nothing to sully our stay. Would recommend!

Stayed over the bank holiday weekend excellent place to stay with very friendly helpful staff , very adequate rooms , good breakfast , 0.8m or 10 min walk into town or £5 taxi but best of all a lounge with a bar excellent for meeting up with our friends for a drink before going out or for a relaxing beer or two after a day spent in town . Would definitely return

This was our 6 visit but the first time we were not in the main building as we booked an executive room but did not realise this was in a separate building Sutherland House. The first room we were given was room 43 which had a disgusting smell and we could not have stayed there. We were then moved to room 41 although there was no smell it could not be classed executive. The bathroom was disgusting with mould and damp at the shower, wallpaper coming of the roof, the bedroom had wallpaper coming of the roof, electric extension on wall, bedside lamp loose, door not painted curtains hanging of rail, bedding was nylon. Came back from town on the Saturday to our room to find the cleaners had left our room door unlocked with all our possessions inside, when I phoned reception I was told that the cleaner would be told not to do that again. With it being a separate building 2 doors away you have to walk to the main hotel for breakfast and evening meal and as the weather was not good it meant you were wet when you arrive at the restaurant. In the past I have recommended this hotel to friends and family but would not do so again.

Room Tip: Don't have a room in Sutherland House

I have been over to inspect these rooms and do not feel the comments are justified.

The customer complained that their room smelt damp. Reception offered to move the guests to another room, which they said they were happy with. We were unaware that these guests were unhappy until reading this review.

Very disappointed to read these comments, especially from someone who has stayed with us 5 times and presumably been happy as returned for a 6th visit.

Stayed there for one night, double room and twin room. Paid the little extra for Superior rooms. They were fantastic, easy 15min walk straight into York. Staff were really friendly. Breakfast was great. Definitely going back. They even let us leave the car parked after check out do we could spend the day in York. Great value for money.

Just returned from a one night stay at Heworth Court. The room was quiet small but adequate enough as we only slept and showered in there. The room itself was quite dated but very clean. The bathroom again was quite small but adequate. Tea and coffee facilites in the room with a hairdryer. Excellent location to the town centre. It took us about 10-15 minutes to walk into town

Check in was very easy and quick. We were shown around the b&b and all staff were very friendly and helpful. Secure parking around the back of the b&b.

The only let down was that the breakfast wasnt to the usual standard that we have experienced in other b&b's. I had poacched egg and beans which were fine. My husband had scrambled egg which looked and tasted like cardboard. He couldnt even eat any of it. This however, hasnt put us off and we would return to the Heworth the next time we stop in York. I think next time we will have the full english breakfast as that looked lovely. It was waiter service for breakfast and all the staff were very friendly.
