Girls Weekend

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Apr 2019via mobile
Flying visit to York with a friend for a girls get away!

Beautiful building full of character, very small car park not sure if you can reserve a spot but if you have a big car it’s a bit of a squeeze.

Not much in the way of parking in York as a whole, so it was stressful finding somewhere and our check in was delayed by over 30 mins!

Hotel staff helpful & friendly and it is in a great placement for a short walk into the centre!

Hotel was lovely. We stayed in a family room for four adults which was huge! Amazing cups for tea and coffee with complementary dressing gowns. We had afternoon tea which was so good. The staff are so helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast on the first day was good and the service very quick. However on the second morning we had no water and one of our party had to be moved twice to get a shower. Then breakfast was a very slow affair with the wrong order coming to us twice which included black pudding for two of our vegetarian party!!! The hotel though did give us a discount without even asking which was really appreciated. The only other thing was that the hotel had building work going on and it would of been nice to be notified of this. Don’t let this put you off as a really good hotel in a fab location and close to the centre of York. Would definitely visit again!

We made a fairly short notice booking for afternoon tea for today.
The chef and team were lovely and accommodating with our options and really went the extra mile for the gluten free option for myself.
    Friendly people and service
    Thankyou

All of the staff were very friendly and the rooms were well decorated and felt very modern and fresh, unfortunately I did find blood on one of the mattress toppers that went through onto the fitted sheets.

    Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.

The photo of Middletons is quite deceiving, we stayed in a different building to the the one in the photo. There are quite a few different buildings. Our room was modern, clean and had everything we needed. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Proximity to York centre is fab. We didn't have breakfast but on reflection we should have it seemed expensive at £12pp but that seems in keeping with the locale. We would return to Middletons, but I would request a bath not a shower.

    Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a valued review.
We have a very unique and characterful site with multiple buildings with a lot of History. Our Lady Anne Building is one of the most significant and beautiful so we use this as it can be seen from the footpath into our hotel as a focal point.
Our beds are wonderfully comfortable aren't they, just what is needed for a relaxing break away.
We hope to welcome you back in the very near future
    Regards
    Rachel

We spent four nights at Middletons to celebrate my brthday. It was a good choice - everything in York seems to be within a 10-15 minute walk of the hotel, the staff couldn't have been nicer or friendlier, and the hotel buildings and gardens are lovely.

Breakfasts were so good we didn't bother going out in search of alternatives, preferring to fuel up for a hard day's sightseeing with plenty of protein and fruit. Everything is made to order and beautifully fresh. We had dinner in the restaurant twice and it was good - I've never had better cream of broccoli, soup and the gnocchi were simple, fresh and delicious.

Our room was very comfortable although the bathroom was more like a sauna, possibly because it had no window. The only options were to keep it heated or unheated, but unheated was fine.

If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room that doesn't face onto Skeldergate. Heavy vehicles run down it two or three times a night. The beds are comfy so we got back to sleep easily, but if you don't it will be annoying.

This is a lovely hotel with great staff. Prices are not the cheapest, but very reasonable for what you get. We will definitely go back to Middleton's.

    Hello Helen
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a valued review and such a lovely one at that.
I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and your time spent in and around York. It certainly is a wonderful City with so much to entertain any traveller. Our location allows the relaxing setting steeped in our own history but with just a few minutes walk you are in the hub of the City.
Our kitchen team work very hard to allow as much options as possible and give our guests a good variation to start off their day.

I hope you enjoyed your birthday and will hopefully welcome you back again in the near future
    Regards
    Rachel
