At this price it's impossible to fault this hotel. It has the warmest, friendliest atmosphere and the staff couldn't be more helpful. The breakfast was fine, and the five course dinner for just £15 was good and just the thing after a hard days sight seeing. There's a small selection of nice wines at around £10 a bottle, very reasonable. The rooms are clean and comfortable and well equipped. I couldn't recommend it more highly if it's a reasonably priced hotel in a delightful city you are looking for.

Only stayed one night but were made to feel very welcome, they allowed us to leave our bags until the room was ready and were only too eager to please. Rooms were very clean, tidy, modern and the bathroom was superb. Only criticism would be that the shower head was set too low, had to crouch under it (and I'm only 5 foot 7) and no visible means of alterning the height. Bar area and restaurant were top class, the service was excellent - looking forward to spending longer there next year.

Room Tip: If you have problems climbing stairs, then request a ground or 1st floor room as the top floor is 4...

Staying here is a pleasure. Nice friendly staff and well run, reception staff are very obliging and helpful. Comfortable rooms. Clean and cosy. Can't fault it at all. Don't listen to Laurel & Hardy themed bar, it's character and homely atmosphere. I would come back again and again.

A friend and I stayed for two nights on a trip to York. The hotel was basic but very good value, the rooms were clean and the staff very friendly. Breakfast finished at 9am which seemed overly old fashioned, especially at the weekend. There was also only one socket in our twin room which meant we couldn't both charge our phones etc.

We stayed here as a base to visit the York Festival of Illumination. Very handy because you can park here and forget about your car for the rest of the weekend as it's an easy walk into the city centre. The room was cosy, warm and comfortable and the breakfasts good with attentive service. The Laurel and Hardy themed bar takes a bit of getting used to as does just about every mirror, painting and clock which seem to be hung at jaunty angles. The staff are very friendly and you are welcomed on arrival with a cup of coffee. An enjoyable stay.
Just a tip if you do come by car. The hotel car park is down a little road called Mill Mount Court and not actually on Scarcroft Road where the main entrance is.

We booked The Wheatland's Lodge after reading the reviews on here, and I would say most of them are reflective of what you get. The hotel is good to use as a base; the room was tidy and functional; bit too much woodchip wallpaper, and the bathroom floor was carpeted. The service at reception was great when we arrived, and we were offered complimentary coffees. Our room was number 58 - which was found next to rooms 23 & 24, but the directions given were fine to find it. Breakfast was ok - only fresh fruit was bananas though (on both mornings) and on the first morning we had to remind the young waiter for a few things - my cooked breakfast arrived before the milk for my cereals, the toast came just as we were finishing our cooked breakfast, the coffee came after we had finished eating. All in all it was a pleasant stay as we spent both days actually in the City Centre so just needed the hotel as a base.
