The Wheatlands is a family owned hotel,we have been here before and the service as always was really good. We will come back again. It is within walking distance of the city and there is lots to see. The staff will help you in any way they can, nothing is too much trouble.

Me & two friends went to york on a night out & this hotel was perfect, price was great, rooms were lovely. After our night out we went back to the hotel & the staff went out of their way to look after us. Then the next morning we went down for breakfast and they served gluten free food, which was the best thing.

Room tip: Great girls night out hotel.

Just stayed here for the weekend, absolutely great! Location was great, only a 15 minute stroll into the centre of York (minster area). Hotel was extremely clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful and friendly, food was great, room was perfect and price was excellent compared to many others we had looked at. Couldn't fault it at all and would definitely return and recommend.

We stayed here as part of Barnes coach travel York trip. The hotel is excellent and is worthy of a much higher rating. Our room was big, really clean and the linen was all good quality and pure white. We had clean towels daily and the in room tea/coffee facilities were topped up each day.

The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The breakfast and evening meal were excellent. Breakfast provided a choice of cereal, full English, fruit, yoghurt, toast, jam, croissants, fruit juice, coffee and tea. Plenty of choice. Nice to see quality brands such as golden shred, marmite etc.

Evening meal was 5 courses. Good choice, traditional meals, pork, lamb, beef etc.

The hotel has a homely feeling and a pretty front garden that has lots of seating to enjoy the summer evenings.

The walk into york centre is probably 15 mins but for those a little less active there is a bus at the end of the road that runs every 10- 15 mins. You can also use the open top tour bus as that drops up and picks up from the end of the road too.

The hotel sadly doesn't have a lift which could prove difficult for those less mobile. Unfortunately due to the hotels structure this probably isn't something they could provide. The staff however will assist with any luggage etc if you ask.

We asked for an iron when we got there and were provided with both an iron and ironing board free of charge .

We would definitely recommend this hotel for holidays, shopping trips to york or a trip to the racecourse, which incidently is also a short walk away.

We will definitely be returning next year.

A big thank you to all the staff that made our stay a wonderful experience.

Room tip: Ground floor rooms a must for the less mobile due to lack of lift

Much better than two stars. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was on the small side but this was fine for us. Everything clean and well kept. Drinks at the bar were very fairly priced - a pleasant surprise! Only a 10 minute, if that, walk from the Micklegate into York centre and a wide choice of places to eat along the way. Only gripe is we'd have preferred real rather than instant coffee at breakfast. Tea next time, will definitely stay there again.
