We didnt have much choice of hotels as we wanted 2 twin rooms and had left it a bit last minute to book anywhere. We had stayed here before and thought it was ok so we booked. Nice welcome from reception staff.Rooms ok but nothing special.Breakfast was best forgotten! Dining room was not very well organised and people had to keep asking for various things ie glasses spoons etc and both mornings people had to wait for a table to be cleared before they could be seated. We waited ages for our food however the toast and tea (which was weak and stewed) had come almost immediately so was cold when the breakfast arrived. The poached eggs were ok but the beans were cold. One lady had FULL english which was edible but very basic, no mushrooms, black pudding, hash browns. The hotel is very old fashioned but clean and well run. Might stay again but not at the price we paid.

This hotel is only a short walk to the minster, the rooms were large and comfortable. Breakfast was good and staff very helpful and friendly. I would stay here again if going to York. There is a good car park, but we decided to travel by train which again was good value. We had a lovely break with no problems.

I looked on-line for a hotel close to York city centre without paying a fortune for our weekend stay and when I found the Alhambra I thought this was just what i was looking for. We wanted a place with some interesting features and character and we found it here. The staff were all very welcoming. There is good car parking, you are very close to the city centre in a lovely street with a very interesting new build next door. York has some fascinating architecture and the street where this hotel is situated I would include in that description. The interior of the hotel is also very interesting with some lovely original features including fireplaces, antiques and a general Victorian feel about this charming hotel. Our room had a large comfortable bed, a great television and plenty of room. My only disappointment was the shower was not the best I have experienced. The breakfast was very nice with good service from the friendly and attentive staff. We will definitely stay here again when we go back to York, a great English city with so much to see and do.

Booked for one night with my friend. On arrival staff member friendly, but she forgot to inform us of the breakfast times and when we arrived down on the Sunday just after 9.30am we were promptly told breakfast had finished. We had to ask nicely for some breakfast which the chef kindly agreed to serve us some not really what we had planned but we are old people who need nourishment!!! although we were then asked to leave before we had finished. It was stated we needed to book for the evening meal. Not sure why, we were the only ones, with two other couples joining us 45 minutes later and the dining room was cold brrrrr...... The meal did not seem to be cooked as stated in the menu, the prawns did not appear to be baked in the wine sauce, but laid on top of a tomato sauce, fairly hard as the prawns were. Soup was nice and the fish was pleasant and pudding was a frozen affair. The room was a family room, basic and not very clean, for example the toilet brush was very unclean, visible and behind the toilet was unclean. The furniture was worn, a set of old scratched pine bunk beds were also in the room, with the ladders available for any child to climb and potentially fall and hurt themselves. We had a kettle and cups, but for a family room we had one sachet of chocolate, one packet of biscuits with two small biscuits in. When I asked for a packet of biscuits each and another chocolate, I was told there was one packet of biscuits in the room because there were two biscuits in the packet, one each and we had to share the chocolate, thank god there were only two of us!!! The room was a odd shape, quite small, the beds were small and we did joked that if we went missing we were probably on the floor. On a serious note, I did wake up with a very painful headache, which I don't normally suffer from, so I wondered if it was the lack of ventilation. The price was the same as the western opposite the minister and I am glad to say I will not be booking again and sorry to say that I had booked in the first place.

We found the staff very friendly and helpful; the room was on the top floor making it particularly quiet and good exercise to climb the stairs to it! (There is a lift available to rooms)

Close enough to walk into York and see it's varied attractions. Two pleasant sitting rooms on ground floor.

Plenty of staff serving breakfast ensured food hot and prompt.

Thought it was good value for money and would definitely re-book
