We stayed for 2 nights in a double room and 4 poster room. The four poster room was very well furnished and had all required comforts for the stay. It had a shower over bath which was adequate. The double room was a bit tired but very comfortable. The hotels location was very central and only a 8-10 minute walk from York Minster. We ate the first night at the hotel and found it very good and value for money. The staff were all very polite, attentive and helpful. The area was nice and quite and with free parking for residents, a saving on some other hotels who charge. We would stay here again when we next visit.

Given it is only two stars we were a little apprehensive as to the features of the hotel but no problem.
Friendly staff, good size room on the second floor accessed by lift with no light!. Excellent breakfast well cooked. The room was a little stuffy as the window could only be cracked open a little for safety reasons. Fans would be needed in summer.
Bearing in mind the price paid it was good value as it also included free parking. As we were only a ten minute walk from the centre we never used the car but took the red bus service.
As a budget priced (for York) hotel it is well recommended

The title says it all, really. The hotel is an old and gracious building with more than a hint of elegance; my room was comfortable and well-maintained; wi-fi internet access worked flawlessly; staff were helpful and professional. Oh: and the breakfast was pretty good, with delicious coffee. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the railway station and very close to the historic centre of York. The only disadvantage is that taxis need to pass through heavy traffic to get to and from this hotel, so unless you are careful you are at risk of being late for meetings arranged during the rush-hour.

really surprised how good this hotel is,the room we had was on the second floor, it was spacious, very clean, good bathroom, great breakfast and the staff especially in the dinning room were very attentive and good to talk to.there is a bar and restaurant and two nice lounges.plenty of room in the car park.
but if the owner is reading this please fix the light in the lift its very annoying trying push the button for the floor you want in the dark.
by the way the location for all to see in York is ideal, couple of minutes walk away.
now for the bad bit, City of York, bit of advice do not go out on a Saturday night if you want a quiet drink and a meal,we did not expect the crowds, the city centre was full of hen party's and stag does and unluckily football supporters also, plus the students.
every pub, bar and take away were full to bursting.
we gave up looking for some were quiet and bought a couple of sandwiches form a corner shop and went back to the hotel.
we are of a certain age so people of a younger age might enjoy the the hustle and bustle on a Saturday night.

We stayed here for two nights with friends. The hotel is very convenient for York taking only 10 minutes to walk in. Check in was quick and efficient. The hotel itself is very traditional, and they have two lovely lounges for guests to use. Our room was large and very clean. The bed was huge, and not too uncomfortable. The paintwork and the radiator could have done with a little touching up, but was just signs of wear and tear. There was ample tea and coffee in the room along with nice biscuits and mints. The breakfast was very nice and the servers were all in uniform. We did not have a meal there but the menu looked good and was reasonably priced. The servers in the breakfast room were very helpful and friendly. All in all a very comfortable stay and we would stay there again

I read some poor reviews on this place and nearly didn't book - I am so glad that I did. I have stayed in several hotels in York and this one is BY FAR the best within its price bracket. Lovely period house, nicely furnished, attentive staff, clean spacious room - what more can I say. The one thing to watch is the bar - it is only open for a quite short period in the evening, but when I mentioned my disappointment, reception staff immediately offered to serve me a drink in the lounge. The hotel has two lounges, both of which are teeming with character, and a delightful place to relax and unwind. I was allocated a single room, so feared the worst, as they tend to be broom cupboards - in reality I was given a spacious and pleasant room with desk and an easy chair. wifi worked brilliantly, breakfast was great, car parking really was ample, walking distance of York city centre - this hotel has the lot. Small enough to be quiet and high quality service, big enough to offer everything you need. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Room 5 was a great single - there is no lift so second floor might be a haul for some.

We have just returned today from a two night stay at the Alhambra and could recommend. Perfect location, either turn right coming out of the hotel and then turn left and you are at the museum gardens or turn left out of the hotel straight onto Bootham and a 5 minute walk to The Minster. The hotel is very clean and quiet and the breakfast is served promptly and is very substantial. We were on the 2nd floor and were grateful for the lift after a busy day and the bedroom was clean and spacious.

We didn't take the car but they have a very large car park at the rear of the hotel which is a bonus.

Room Tip: Room 16 very quiet
