So glad we managed to find this lovely hotel, we were very lucky, down a quiet street but only 5 minutes from the Minster so its an ideal location.
Warm, cosy and inviting, complimentary refreshments served in the lounge , clean bedrooms, some a little small and water pressure a little slow in the shower but hey its a 300 year old building! It really did not spoil our stay.Breakfasts are smashing plenty to choose from, unfortunately didn't get round to sample the evening meal but we definitely will next time.
The thing that really makes this hotel special and an absolute must is the wonderful staff, the owner Julie, makes you feel like you've come home and can't do enough to make your stay a memorable one and Lee who I think generally works in the bar is helpful, friendly and gets top marks for entertainment value alone!
In summary we wouldn't stay anywhere else in York, while ever Julie is the owner the woman was born to run a hotel! Can't wait to return. Lisa, Denise, Molly and Zoe Chesterfield

Hi girls it was lovely meeting you and chatting about Chesterfield. I am so pleased you enjoyed it here, we do try to make it home from home here.
Lee sends his regards and says that ...........yes............ he knows that he does 99% of the work here but feels the other staff must be congratulated for the other 1%.....ha ha ( full of blather!!!)

My husband and I booked in to the coach House hotel for our 10th wedding anniversary in September 12. We had a fantastic time, the hotel staff were very welcoming and the bed was so comfortable. The young man behind the bar made us feel welcome. Will definitely book into there again and have also recommended to friends. Thank you for helping us make our 10th anniversary a wonderful one.

Thank you for your review. The young man that works behind the bar....it must be Liam who is very nice but how does his girlfriend put up with him? ( only joking Rachel)
I am happy that we made you happy on your 10th wedding anniversary. "If our guests are happy we are happy" thank you again and we wish you many happy anniversaries.
Sincere Regards,
Julie and the girls not forgetting our Liam

My husband and I were in England a couple of weeks ago and had train tickets from London to Newcastle Upon Tyne. We got as far as York and our train service was halted because of the flooding they had in northeast England. Our travel book suggested Coach House Hotel, so we called and they made accommodations for us. They were so inviting and hospitable. Our room was very comfy and food in the adjoining restaurant wonderful. They had tea and cakes waiting for us when we arrived. It was chilly and wet, so it was very appreciated. Thank you for making us feel so comfortable while in York. It was actually a pleasant diversion in our trip. We enjoyed seeing York Minster and walking around your city. It wasn't on our itinerary but we were glad to see a part of England that we would not have otherwise.

Every cloud has a silver lining....so they say and the cloud which rained on York during your stay in the uk certainly proved the point!
York Minster especially at night still makes me feel that this city is very very special and I am proud to live here and welcome visitors like yourselves. Some things are meant to be and I am very happy I was able to make your stay a happy memory.
Kind Regards,
Julie

I would recommend the Coach House Hotel for cheerful, helpful staff, cleanliness of rooms, excellent breakfast and closeness to the city and all emenities. We enjoyed our stay very much and could highly recomment a visit. It would be difficult to find fault.

Room Tip: Our room was a twin bedded room and was a little of the small size but quite adequate and had coffee...

The hotel is in a decent place to visit the city and the hotel is quite nice. I found our double room to be a little on the small side and rather dark with brickwork showing on one wall, the ensuite was on scale with the room and the shower was totally hopeless.
The staff are friendly and we found the restaurant to be OK with a self service breakfast which gave a decent choice.
We enjoyed our stay but felt the room let our stay down for the price we paid.

Room Tip: Don't pick a room on the side of the hotel

Dear Angel Raider,
Sorry you found our rooms on the small side if you return please telephone and we will endeavor to arrange a larger better (same price) room. Being a 300 year-old building all the rooms are very different, some small but other much bigger.
Kindest Regards,
Julie Thomson

We stayed at the Coach House Hotel for one night to celebrate my birthday. We booked based on the positive reviews on trip advisor and were delighted to find that the faults mentioned in some of the reviews seemed to be people picking fault for the sake of it. (Some people are never happy). This is a quaint, old building with character (beams, uneven ceilings etc) perfect for a building in the centre of the ancient city of York.
A few days before the booked stay we were contacted to say they were having the car park resurfaced and to please call to obtain a parking permit rather than driving into the car park. On arrival we were told that the resurfacing had been delayed and it was ok to park there. This was a bonus but it we had been pleased to have been pre-warned.
All the staff were helpful and friendly. (The girl who had started the day before couldn't stop smiling) We were shown round the public areas and told to help ourselves to tea/coffee and cake as we wanted. We were then shown to our room which was small (double bed) but contained everything we could have expected (on suite toilet, basin & shower, dressing table, wardrobe, mirrors, tv, tea/coffee facilities etc). The room overlooked the old city wall with a view of York Minster. The brownies, bottle of water and beer were a lovely touch and the brownies delightful.
We returned to the room after an afternoon walking around York centre (less than 5 mins walk/ just a couple of streets away) to find a birthday card and small hand made chocolate cake waiting in the room. This is something not found in large, flash or chain (modern) hotels and another example of the attention to detail shown at this hotel.
As we were only staying for the one night, we didn't get chance to sample the evening menu but if breakfast was anything to go by (see below), we can only imagine it would have been good. We had been given a code with the key to re-enter if the doors were locked on our return (no restriction on having to be back before a set time). When we got back the bar was closed but we were asked if we would like a drink & told they would re-open if we wanted.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the on suite facilities fine with no complaints about the shower (hot & powerful) or space (small but adequate after all how much room do you need to take a shower?). The breakfast was lovely - lots of choice (fruit, about 8 different cereals or cooked with an equally large choice - 3 different styles of egg, 2 styles of bacon, sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatos, beans & fried bread, 3 different juices, tea, coffee and toast as required).
When we checked out we were given our car key and all necessary vehicles were moved to allow us to leave. It was nice to see that all the cars were driven/moved very well and with respect.
We would happily recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in York and expect to return ourselves.

Dear Caroline,
We are so glad that you enjoyed yourself here! We are more than happy to provide the extra touch that other hotels forget, and we are glad you appreciated them.
We are getting ready for the resurfacing this weekend, and hoping it doesn't cause too many problems. And our new girls are doing well, and still smiling!
We hope to see you again, and hopefully next time you will stay longer.
Kind Regards from all of us at the Coach House.
