To be fair, they did give the square footage of the rooms, but we didn't quite realize how small it was until we got into one on the first with a view of the York Minster. Well, you have to look over a low wall just across a arrow road to find it in the distance. Since we carried two rather large suitcases, the pokey and steep staircase was a chore to climb. The bathroom was minuscule even by Paris small hotel standard. The staff there, however, was the saving grace, being a helpful and cheery lot, all except one. We spent three nights there. The last two in a ground floor room we chose for its relatively large size. The tradeoff was that it was facing the loos of the hotel restaurant and parked cars right outside the window. When someone taking a smoke outside, the sigarette smoke wafted inside the room. We assumed those standing outside our room could also hear us. The location is inside the old city ramparts and is in easy reach to all the sights. It got quiet soon after dark. Also the deco, especially the carpet was cheesy.

Room Tip: Not the ground floor room.

well I am flabbergasted!! firstly we are not in the country so do not boast being a "Country Inn."
Secondly 300 yds from the Minster is ....close...surely ?
Thirdly I cannot understand how a neutral Laura Ashley carpet can be described as cheesy.
Ah well happy team we cannot please all the people all the time.

We stayed here for a weekend. The room was lovely, comfy bed, tea/coffee facilities. Complimentary brownies (delicious) and some complimentary drinks.

Julie, the owner is exceptional. She gets involved in everything! she is definately a hands on proprietor and you can tell that she really really cares about her business..
Her staff all looked happy to work there, Lee is hilarious and Kathryn lovely. I don't know the names of the others but they were all just as helpful, pleasant and friendly.
So many places promise a lot but deliver little. We are pleased to say that this place promises AND delivers!.

The only problem we had was from outside noise. Our room was on the front and on the Saturday, late night revellers kept us awake until after 2am!. But if you stay midweek this wouldn't be a problem. Just request a room at the back if you think this would bother you.

We would highly recommend and would definately stay again.

Room Tip: Rear rooms to avoid weekend noise

The staff and owner are a credit to the coach house, friendly and very helpful, nothing is a problem for them, perfected location few mins from the centre of york, rooms where great and food excellent, enjoyed it so much have booked again for march next year.

So glad we managed to find this lovely hotel, we were very lucky, down a quiet street but only 5 minutes from the Minster so its an ideal location.
Warm, cosy and inviting, complimentary refreshments served in the lounge , clean bedrooms, some a little small and water pressure a little slow in the shower but hey its a 300 year old building! It really did not spoil our stay.Breakfasts are smashing plenty to choose from, unfortunately didn't get round to sample the evening meal but we definitely will next time.
The thing that really makes this hotel special and an absolute must is the wonderful staff, the owner Julie, makes you feel like you've come home and can't do enough to make your stay a memorable one and Lee who I think generally works in the bar is helpful, friendly and gets top marks for entertainment value alone!
In summary we wouldn't stay anywhere else in York, while ever Julie is the owner the woman was born to run a hotel! Can't wait to return. Lisa, Denise, Molly and Zoe Chesterfield

Lee sends his regards and says that ...........yes............ he knows that he does 99% of the work here but feels the other staff must be congratulated for the other 1%.....ha ha ( full of blather!!!)

My husband and I booked in to the coach House hotel for our 10th wedding anniversary in September 12. We had a fantastic time, the hotel staff were very welcoming and the bed was so comfortable. The young man behind the bar made us feel welcome. Will definitely book into there again and have also recommended to friends. Thank you for helping us make our 10th anniversary a wonderful one.

Thank you for your review. The young man that works behind the bar....it must be Liam who is very nice but how does his girlfriend put up with him? ( only joking Rachel)
I am happy that we made you happy on your 10th wedding anniversary. "If our guests are happy we are happy" thank you again and we wish you many happy anniversaries.
Sincere Regards,
Julie and the girls not forgetting our Liam
