We chose the Coach House because we had stayed there many years ago when it was owned by Derrick. The new owner Julie has made some very nice improvements. We arrived early, which was no problem, we were allowed to park and also check into our rooms. We enjoyed coffee and delicious home made cakes which Julie provided free before setting of for a short 5 minute walk into town.

The rooms were very clean and the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Julie also leaves some nice touches in the room, I will leave mentioning them to not spoil the surprise. The breakfast in the morning was more typical of a 5 star hotel and we were spoiled for choice. Overall we had a fantastic stay and will certainly be returning on our next visit to York.
Well done Julie and your team.

Dear Allan,
Thank you for the lovely review. I am pleased that the hotel is as good as the last time you visited when Derrick was here. He comes in occasionally and still lives a few doors away. The little goodies are a nice surprise and we change them from time to time so that when people return they feel we are still "on our toes" At the moment we have complimentary mulled wine and Mince pies served in the lounge all day......hic !
Kind Regards,
Julie

This Hotel under the ownership of Julie since 2007 has again excelled, the friendliness, warmth and welcome are second to none, its like a home from home, no swimming pools or leisure centre, but for all in top notch comfort and top class value, it is as Tine Turner says, "Simply the Best".

The breakfast is all you need to set you up for the day, fruit juice, cereal - mnay types, fresh fruit, many types, porrige, local bacon, sausages to die for, fried bread, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms beans, toast, marmalade, jams, a range of teas second to none and as much coffee, home ground as you can drink.

After 4pm every day there is complimentary tea, coffee and cakes with mulled wine available to help yourself to in the lounge and all fro free if you want it, before you enjoy the most delicious of meals in an extremely friends and cost dining room.

Christine the etremely hard working Head Cook, turns out an excellent menu that never fails to please, in three nights I had salmon, Roast Turkey and Roast Beef, each night the accompanying soups, Vegetable, Mushroom and Leek and Potato with hot crusty bread and butter were very morish. The sweets which I did not have room for also sounded equally delightful, My wife had Giant Whitby Scampi and Lasagne, smelled and tasted gorgeous, I stole a taste. I was amazed at both the quality/quantity and the superby turned out food. In addition there is a bar that caters for every taste of wine, beer or spirits.

The only way I can prove these comments is by saying I visit around three times a year, try it yourself, but if you do you will make it harder for people like me to book again. We have been going there for around 17 years and it has always been good, but it is the best under Julie, Brilliant, magnificent, can't say enough good about the place, Well done Julie and staff.
Best Wishes and Merry Christmas from Geoff and Audrey and thanks for a great stay.

Our first trip to York with our daughter and husband who have been before. We were very pleased with the location of the Coach House hotel being in walking distance to the centre of town. The staff were all very friendly and could not have been more helpful even suggesting a great curry restaurant not to far away. Our room was very comfortable and quite, with everything we needed. Being a small hotel all the guests chatted in the lounge during the evening which was really nice.Would definitely go to this hotel again.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in The Coach House Hotel 15th - 19th Oct.
When we arrived we parked the car in their car park round the back and were able to check straight in, the receptionist was very polite and friendly and showed us to our room straight away, she offered us a drink of tea or coffee which was available for guests in the lounge everyday complimentary to guests. She made our drinks and we got a piece of homemade Lemon drizzle cake which was delicious. The staff were pleasant and the breakfast was very nice, the only thing that was incorrect was it said on the web site that it was a breakfast buffet, well to me that means all breakfast is self service, not just cereals, but I cannot complain about the amount of food for breakfast, this set us up for the day. The lady who worked on the evening was very nice and came talking to us before she closed the bar and brought us some homemade brownies as they should have been complimentary in our room but were not there. We also had a free bottle of Ale & water in our room which was nice. Close to York Minster and bars. Really enjoyed the stay. Our room was very small as we booked through another site and not directly with the hotel, if you want a large room then contact the hotel as we were in room 2 and it was too small. Would stay again if we could guarantee a decent sized room.

Room Tip: Phone the hotel directly if you want a decent sized room.

Dear jellby1
Thank you for your review. Carolines Lemondrizzle cake is just the best I have ever tasted, it has lots of fresh lemons and really I would much rather eat lemondrizzle than than take a vitamin c tablet!! It was lovely to know you would recommend us and yes we do have larger rooms than room 2. Our reception is manned from 7am until 11pm so if you call we can give you the best rooms that we have left. (we save the best rooms for our regulars)
kind regards,
Julie

I stayed here while visiting York for a wedding over the Easter weekend this year. The hotel is hidden away on a quiet street but is just a short walk away from local attractions. The staff were very friendly & helpful, room was clean cosy and there was even a complimentary bag of chocolate brownies!
Tea and cakes/biscuits were served in the lounge at midday but the best thing about the hotel was the excellent english breakfast - definitely worth getting out of bed for.
The staff even left us little easter eggs on our beds to celebrate the holiday. Would definitely book here again when visiting York - highly recommended.

Dear JellyB. So pleased you enjoyed our home made brownies and chocolate eggs. I am a serious chocaholic and have driven miles for some of Caroline's chocolate brownies which are made with plain chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate....nothing else quite "hits the spot" I suppose I was destined to live in York which still makes chocolate and can be detected in the air when the wind is blowing from Nestle towards the Coach House ! Thank you for your lovely review and we hope to see you again.
Kindest regards,
Julie

Nine of us have just enjoyed a four day stay at the Coach House . The hotel is in a good position for exploring York . We parked our cars on day one at the hotel and left them there for the duration of our stay . It's worth noting that although the carpark is small the parking is free unlike a lot of hotels that charge between £10&£15 per day.
The meals are good and plentiful . Any minor wrinkles we had were sorted without fuss.

What makes any stay at a hotel really enjoyable are the staff and Julie and her team are without exception BRILLIANT

Hi Terry,
Great to hear from you! I hope your journey home was not to arduous. It was very enjoyable for us also to have your brilliant family staying, what a fun group of people, the restaurant came alive with your table of 9 and the staff were very grateful for your generous tip. Thank you and we wish you all a very happy Christmas

Dear Patricia,
So glad you prefer our new system for breakfast. When it is cooked to order although it takes a little longer I do think our customers prefer it this way. We are allways looking for ways to improve and get better all the time. This ensures repeat business and happy customers. Currently we have mulled wine and mince pies served all day (complimentary) in the lounge .....hic

Julie
