Stopped here for three nights in April. Lets get one thing straight, this is not your typical chain hotel so if you are looking for the corporate certainty of a Holiday Inn you will be disappointed.
Its a small cosy hotel in an original coach house and as such the rooms are all different, some are large and some are smaller and their are quite a lot of stairs if you are on the top floor. For me this makes the hotel interesting and charming.
My room was clean, and comfortable and had everything I needed even if the bathroom was rather small. The bed was particularly comfortable and I have to congratulate the hotel on providing a good range of pillows including at least one memory foam one which was perfect for my dodgy neck!
Downstairs is a small lounge which had the added attraction of free coffee and delicious free cake which made a nice treat on returning for a late afternoon siesta.
Breakfast was huge, well cooked and delicious (but then again this is Yorkshire so what do you expect!).
There was a small bar which we didn't get chance to try due to the hundreds of other hostelries in York but it looked very pleasant.
The hotel is positioned really well just a few hundred yards from the Minster so is really good value given its prime spot.
The only negative I can find is that the WIFI coverage was not great in the rooms so it necessitated coming down to the lounge if you needed to do any travel research or emails etc. This is however not unusual in these older buildings.
So in summary if you are happy to stay in somewhere authentic rather than corporate and can handle a few stairs I recommend it for its position, friendly service and good old fashioned values.

Room Tip: Higher numbered rooms are on higher floors which do involve stairs so ask for low numbered room if y...

Just got back from a 3 night stay here. Breakfast was lovely staff very friendly, but room size a bit small for a this length of stay. We also never got our tea n coffee basket topped up while staying, even after I asked I was told it would be done when the room was tidied. This wont put me off staying again as its in a very good location but I would ask for a different room.

We have stayed here twice now in two different rooms. The rooms are nicely furnished with very comfortable beds. The rooms aren't huge but big enough with lovely bathrooms. The real bonus for this hotel is the friendliness of the staff and the personal service, they really can't do enough for you. There is free cake and tea every afternoon if you are around and they put homemade Brownies in every room. I can't praise them highly enough. We spent our wedding night there and although the restaurant was closed, they booked us a table in a wonderful nearby restaurant and altered it when we were delayed. Excellent. If you enjoy cozy comfortable rooms, exceptional cooked breakfast and great service then book here. You won't regret it.

Just returned from trip to York and overnight stay at this hotel. Really enjoyed our stay. From the welcome to the delicious breakfast and everything in between. Also good location to reach places of interest on foot. We plan to return to this little gem now we have found it so we can spent at least a few days exploring beautiful York.

The staff is so cheerful and full of information about the area. The rooms (we've stayed in three different rooms throughout the years) are quaint and charming. This time we stayed in the attic room which has a lovely sun roof window in the shower room with a great view of the Minster.

Every day there was a new home madecake and coffee you could partake of at will. There is also a small bar downstairs and breakfast is traditional and plentiful.

Room Tip: There are a lot of stairs and some of the rooms, like the attic, are very "cozy". While we...

Stayed here recently on a short break to York. Top place for location, with a lovely walk through the museum gardens every day to the city centre. Attic room a tad cramped but adequate. Staff very friendly and attentive. Good to offer free parking in city centre even though it was a challenge getting in/out sometimes! One small negative point - coffee is probably the worst I have tasted in years, positively undrinkable. Would return though as all other aspects v positive, would be good to try a bigger room.

Room Tip: Try to avoid attic

Thank you Sherpa girl 66 sorry about the coffee it must have been "standing" to long or possibly to strong. I live on our coffee and boast about our Brazilian espresso beans which we grind then filter so not sure what went wrong. Anyhow I'm very pleased that you enjoyed it here and if you do return please phone 01904 652780 and I will make a special ...fresh...jug of coffee for you.
Kind regards,
Julie
